Australia Team Discussion

The squads announced for the England tour and Zimbabwe tri-series are very strong. Its feels like it doesn't matter who's captain, Justin Langer will have a huge impact on how the team's going to be led. I don't mind Tim Paine being the Captain, i think he will do a fine job. Maybe Finch should of had the position but still, not complaints from me.
I'm very happy on the inclusion of Ashton Agar, hopefully filling the all-rounder spot. If M. Marsh is still injured during the UAE (Pakistan) tour, Agar should fill the all-rounder position. I can't tell you why i enjoy watching him play so much but i just do.
Swepson, Wildermuth and Maddinson were the selections i was most shocked at. Not that i'm complaining, i just didn't expect it.
Ashton is a great cricketer. Hopefully he does play on the test team for the UAE series, the problem is, I don't see him being a no.6 batsman. No.7 would be a good position for him and Paine would have to bat six. This is all possible with the absence of Marsh. However, the ODI squad is a very different situation because me and a lot of other people don't think Paine should even be in the odi team. Someone like Alex Carey could bat 5, which would give us the option of playing hazlewood stanlake tye and Richardson. Agar would bat 7 and be our front line spinner, Glenn Maxwell bats 6, Carey 5,Stoinis 3, D'arcy or Shaun marsh bats 4 and Head and Finch open. Finch leads the side. I think this would keep us for another year for when all the big guns are back.

Hazlewood now ruled out due to injury. Our chances of winning are now very slim due to the lack of inexperience with both batsman and bowlers and a good captain

Any idea why Finch isn't leading the side in ODI ? With Waner and Smith out, I thought Finch would be leading them but seeing Paine as captain is a surprise.

I think Shaun Marsh should've been the ODI Captain for Australia considering his performance in 2017-18 Ashes. I don't believe that Finch can lead the side well

I think we should at least give Paine a chance.
The man has only captain one game, when he led a tragic and broken Australian test team on a terrible occasion.
We are too quick too judge, just be patient.

Yeah, you are right. He did Captain the Hurricannes very well in 2014 CLT20 in absence of George Bailey (He Captained KXIP of IPL that year). I would definitely like to see Paine do well as a skipper for Australia :thumbs

Shaun Marsh is too quiet of a character, not fit for captain, also you can't base a captain off of a series. Paine isn't as quiet but is still very quiet, we need an aggressive captain who can lead from the front. Smith,Warner, Bailey and Clarke were the best captains we had since Ponting retired. They should either bring back Bailey or give someone like Mitch marsh a shot, which captained extremely well in the JLT One Day Cup. As of now, we are left with no one who can captain the team successfully or be a long time captain at International Level

1. 110 and 78 from 2 batsman and nothing else from the rest
2. Paine not a limited overs player or fit for captaincy
3. Maxwell is too inconsistent
4. Head has proven to only score at the top of the order and should open or not be in the XI at all
5. One of the best international teams cannot score 300 against a county team

We are doomed.

I agree with all the points but we should wait for the second practice match. Then we can decide which player should play where.

Is it a good move to bat Stoinis at no. 3? Could be very risky if he gets out early! What happened to Bailey? Is he not in good form?

I guess they just stuck with him because he the last game in the odi series here, he scored a really good 90 odd. Baileys captaincy skills and ability to anchor an innings are both really good though

I am with you. Paine's vast FC experience is what is needed to lead a fractured cricket team. I like what I am hearing from Tim about the need for a culture change within Australian cricket.

The issue which Australia is currently facing was expected. Every team goes into a phase where they fall apart from their original strengths and capabilities. It's because of change in the player batch and it will take some time to regain that charisma again. Though this might not be the main reason, this will surely be one of the reasons. The other examples are Sri Lanka, West Indies, India (2012).

By saying 'change in player batch', I'm talking about the retirement or bad phase of experienced cricketers and establishment of new talent in the national team after exit of experienced players.
