Australia tour of New Zealand 2010

That right there is how you throw away a series, it's a shame Stewart didn't perform on debut.

Just wondering looking ahead to the 2011 WC. What do you Kiwis reckon will be your best XI & 15-Man squad, once all are fit?. I'll give it a try:

Ryder
McCullum
Guptil
Taylor
Elliot
Styris
Oram
Vettori
McCullum
Mills
Bond

Hopkins, Tuffey/McKay, Southee, Ingram/Williamson

Klinger's average in the last 3 Aussie summers in FC cricket:

2008-09 (Australia) 10 19 2 1203 255 70.76 4 4

Totals: 23 games, 43 innings, 8 NOs, 2209 runs, HS 255, Avg. 63.11, 6 100s, 10 50s

White's closer to Klinger than Symonds, especially when you consider Klinger's averages contain more NOs and some big double centuries. That Symonds selection in '04 was awful - based on his off spin that was going to make all the difference in SL :facepalm And then in 05/06 he was the desperate attempt to find our own Andrew Flintoff. He ended up OK, but his selection stalled the careers of Hodge and Katich and gave us nothing until a couple of fortunate umpiring calls helped him to a couple of centuries.

Actually i sort of have never thought Symonds selection in the test squad was that bad to be fair. The way his off-spin was so effective in the ODI series, i myself thought it could have been a fairly effective back-up option to Warne/MacGill. But unfortuantely it didn't work out.

But good looking out on White FC form in Australia in recent years. But i dont know i'm not 100% sure about him getting into the test squad just yet, he apprarantly hasn't scored enough hundreds to be fair either.

Would still have Klinger & even Ferguson (when he returns) ahead of him in the pecking order for a test birth. But hell if White was to step up if chosen that would be great too.

That'd be about right. Good effort. Missing 4 of those guys atm is really hurting us. Everyone seems to hate Oram around here but his bowling was important for the side and batting handy.

You wouldn't expect Nathan McCullum to play every game though... would depend on the wicket.

You'd probably Have Southee/Tuffey/McKay (haven't seen enough of him yet, but looked pretty decent) in for him most of the time.

Cam White just maybe deserves a test spot sooner rather than later, even though his figures are only 'reasonable', nothing brilliant there. I'm sure what worries the selectors with his style of play at FC level is his consistent failures at a lot of the grounds around Australia, he has found wanting at the Gabba, WACA for example, and those flaws havent been fixed. His technique looks to have improved A LOT though since he first batted at 3 in England last year so full credit to him, and you'd have to say based on his great batting this season in the ODI's that he would embarrass himself at all at number 6 in the test team, so yeah I think he deserves a spot.

Quite the change of tune Robelinda, weren't you one of the guys totally against him getting a Test spot? He might have been pigeonholed as a shorter form specialist as this Test squad was his best chance but hes missed it. Usually the selectors will reward your good ODI form.

Well he has batted well in tough situations recently, and not just slogged a 50, his defence looks to be much improved from what i'd seen previously. Also its interesting to see players overseas too, the same techniques might not be as effective away from home, and he handled Bond etc really well, you may remember he had trouble with the short ball in the one dayers at home, but he has pulled and hooked with supreme authority in NZ. All through his FC career he has been suspect against the short ball, no better place to get good at it than in international cricket!

Never really noticed his short ball problem, I've always seen him pulling and hooking well, his weakness for me was the ball outside offstump.

Well he got numerous times in the one day series in Australia, including that sickening blow to the neck vs WI. He does have an off stump weakness, more so than other players. In FC cricket it was known that he had trouble getting on the front food to that faster bowlers. In the 08 Shield Final he was hopeless against Lee, off stump half vollyes crashing into off stump with no footwork, but that problem hasnt surfaced this summer.

Ah that stuff, Henriques also copped him on the jaw! I'd put it down to one of those things that happen, even the best puller in the game in Ponting has copped some blows even during his purple period in 05.

Completely off-topic here. But the standard of bowling in that final was excellent for both sides. It could easily pass as a test match:

Final: New South Wales v Victoria at Sydney, Mar 15-19, 2008 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com
