Australia tour of New Zealand 2010

Johnson has bowled for entire matches in the 135-145 range this summer. He's more like 135-155, which just goes to show how unpredictable he is (and not necessarily in a good way). Mentally I've started to classify him as more of a LFM most of the time.

Hmm that's a little harsh. He's a 140+ bowler. If he's in the 130s he's warming up or bowling cutters. But at the same time he's not a 150+ bowler either. 140-150 is a fair range I'd say. Proof? Cricinfo has Hawkeye for some games now and Mitch was measured in the 2nd and 4th ODIs v West Indies.
In 2nd ODI his average was 87.4 (140.7), highest 90.8 (146.2)
in 4th ODI his average was 87.4 (140.7), highest 93 (149.7)
Considering slower balls bring his average down, he's definitely a 140s bowler.

I think you've described Peter Siddle pretty well though. Sometimes he can crank it up to 150 when he's really in rhythm. But most of the time he's high 130s, maybe low 140s.

Mitch's slowest bowl (other then the slower 1) was 143ks. And that was his 1st ball, and we all know what happened on that.

The days of Mitch being a 130 bowler is long gone, he may have came onto the scene like that but hes definitely around 145. He can hit the 150 when everything is clicking.

Bond did hit 150km/h last night maybe they rounded it down afterwards but when it first appeared he did hit 150.

I noticed 150 come up for Bond probably 5 or 6 times in those first 3 overs. He was really fired up. His last over was after a bit of a break and he slowed down to low 140s though. The game was lost by then pretty much. He still gave it his all.

Hopefully Bond gets a huge home crowd tomorrow night so we can see him fire up again. Get the adrenaline pumping. I really can't wait to see 4 bowlers in 1 game bowl so fast. It really is a huge rarity. Australia so lucky to have 3. Heck we feel lucky enough to have 1. Express bowlers don't show up around here every day.

Its very handy to have for the shorter forms especially T20. Like our spin era though, once they start retiring we could struggle to find another. Lucky enough Johnson and Tait should have a few years to let one of the youngsters come through. Siddle is the most likely but he needs to remodel his action as clearly he can't bowl 150km/h without getting injured.

Team news

Tim Southee is the only person New Zealand can bring in to strengthen their line-up and his inclusion won't help the specialist batsmen, who struggled in the opening encounter. Nathan McCullum is the most likely to miss out, although Daniel Vettori will consider employing a second slow bowler again. "There are big square boundaries, so maybe the spinner will come more into play," he said. "We still need attacking weapons and maybe Tim Southee comes into our thinking."

New Zealand (possible) 1 Brendon McCullum, 2 Peter Ingram, 3 Martin Guptill, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Jacob Oram, 6 Gareth Hopkins (wk), 7 James Franklin, 8 Daniel Vettori (capt), 9 Tim Southee, 10 Shane Bond, 11 Daryl Tuffey.

It would be hard to change the bowling attack after the stunning display, but Ryan Harris remains a front-line option. Shane Watson could be rested to let him in, with Brad Haddin, Travis Birt and Shaun Marsh contenders at the top of the order. Australia have 15 men in the squad, including Nathan Hauritz and Michael Hussey, so there are lots of choices.

Australia (possible) 1 Brad Haddin (wk), 2 David Warner, 3 Michael Clarke (capt), 4 David Hussey, 5 Cameron White, 6 Steven Smith, 7 Daniel Christian, 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 Ryan Harris, 10 Dirk Nannes, 11 Shaun Tait.

If they do that it'll be close to the ideal side I named. Really hope that's how they go, 4 quicks and Smith at 6 would be awesome.

Watching the women's ODI, nice spell by Perry, gets some nice swing. And AMI Stadium looks so much better now, a lot more cricket friendly and should be good for the Rugby.

I really don't understand what Australia is doing with Smith (ODI and T20). He's a batsman who can bowl for now. He's a pretty decent batsman too, averaging 50 in First Class cricket yet they seem intent on playing him as a bowler and giving him close to no time with the bat.

We want to see how his leggies are, and he is a pretty good bowler in the shorter forms. When we collapse (which used to happen a lot) his batting can be usefull.

Oh what the hell am I smoking, he is in the side as a specialist fielder :)

Let's play "Predict how big Australia's winning margin will be". For today's game I will say 54 runs or 7 wickets.
