Australia tour of New Zealand 2010

Franklin wants to be an all-rounder and the attempts to push him up the order have failed. I still think he's a bowler who can bat a bit.

As out of form as Oram was, it's sad to see him out injured again. Also good to see Styris step up and really cement his short term place in the side.

They took 8 wickets on a pitch where they probably should have been defending 300; it's a bit rich to say it was a particularly poor bowling effort. I also think it cheapens the quality of performances from batsmen like Taylor and Styris.

Great batting effort from some key NZ players. Surely Styris is a shoe in with Oram once again broken down.

Have to say the Aussie fielding effort was sloppy and nowhere near their usual high standards

Well they burst onto the scene so quickly, I was moreorless just saying that it was one of each of Harris and Bollingers poorer games in their short INT careers.

Oh goodness. The best they could come up with was Michael Mason. Hope he doesn't play 'cause I'm certain that he'll get smashed around by the Aussies.

Shows how much they rate Oram's batting when hes the replacement. :laugh

Given it some thought and hes probably the best person we could of picked given all our injuries right now its clearly a selection to try and win the series because at 35 he won't be around for to much longer this might be his last go. Very glad that they didn't go for Thompson either.

Still don't want him in that starting XI though. ;)

Ponting wants more from his batsmen

Ricky Ponting has called on Australia's batsmen to lift their game ahead of Saturday's second ODI against New Zealand in Auckland. Ponting was unhappy with the way several players, including himself, failed to capitalise on promising starts in the first game in Napier, where Australia's 275 was overhauled by New Zealand.

It was the first one-day loss for Australia since October 31, when they went down in the third game of their tour of India. However, Ponting was in no mood to be generous after his men raced to 50 for 1 from six overs, only to finish with a sub-par total.

"After we got off to such a great start, we probably just took things for granted a little bit and expected that the run-rate was going to continue to go that way," Ponting said after the game. "Before we knew it we had lost two or three wickets and all of a sudden we were back under pressure again."

I really hope they rise to the task sooner rather than later. Otherwise it's going to be a major problem going in to the Ashes, World Cup and beyond.

Yep been a big problem with us, no big individual scores, but we always rely on a solid team performance usually, that gives the top order the freedom to hit out if they feel like it, knowing the middle and late order can do a job.

That's no problem against the West Indies or Pakistan, but it'll kill us when we come up against better opposition.

Maybe, but our record has been awesome the last 12 months- we did win the CL and won in India! Its only been SA we've faltered against.
