Australia tour of South Africa, 2008/09

For years South Africa could never move ahead of that number 2 position due to lack a quality spinner in their side. But that seems to be changing and results are there for everbody to see. India, Australia and South Africa are top three teams in the world. In the end team with most varied bowling attack and balance will be the number one team in the world.

His action is no worse than Muralidaran's and I don't believe Murali is a chucker.

He has been reported more than once now. IIRC he was out of the game for a little while because of it.

Brings me back to my first and only cricket game I have attended so far, in 2006 at the Gabba, when he was bowling, there was crowd chants of 'no ball' and 'chucker' going all his overs. Was disgraceful, now I'm not sure that happens at every ground, every game, but I certainly hope not.

It's not a good time for Botha to be reported again. He was actually doing so well lately. He is actually allowed to play in the last match against Australia.

Pfft, I said that 3 years ago, as did Chris Broad, incidentally. I think on live television Richie Benaud stopped short with a succinct "well", while the super-slow motion footage spoke for itself.

However, there's little point to debating it unless they get called, even if it starts with good intentions, it's just hearsay that ends up being used just to offend a particular group of supporters and start fights that can not be conclusively won.

The responsibility herein lies with whoever conducts remedial work. Botha was given the all clear, so whoever facilitates that is at least equally at fault. No matter what the findings of the current inquiry, Botha does bowl with a fairly pronounced and ugly kink in his arm. In correcting the problem, they clearly didn't seek to irradicate a technical flaw, but merely to tweak it until it was legal. To me, that says that the problem will only become more widespread if the same methodology is applied at lower levels.

Both was reported in 2006 too in Australia I guess. Its sad but his doosra and quicker do seem a bit odd. I hope things turn out well for him. It must be so difficult for a crickter.

I've always stayed on the fence for chuckers leaving the umpires to do their job and report any chuckers. Seems to be a trend for guys that have been called for chucking to be reported again with Bird another that relapsed.

allot of ofspiners get reported for their quicker one. I guess since not that many know how to bowl the doosra we dont see them get called on it.

The dead rubber for us really has become a weird one as we should give everyone a game but White and North aren't even in our next ODI squad so we basically find nothing out from them and both will probably bat too low to have a big match which could see them get a late call up.

Hmmm. Murali vs Aus: doing well. cited for chucking. Botha vs Aus 2006: doing well. cited for chucking. Botha vs Aus 2009: doing well. cited for chucking

I think there's a pattern somewhere.

Murali is a chucker and Botha's action is somewhat illegal.

Pretty much. If a bowler gets called it happens against aus. I am sure its just a coincidence.
