Australia miss chances, but finally get their man

In the last 10 overs off this match, Australia have had many chances to score a wicket here, but with some bad luck on their side at the moment. Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus have been very poor to begin the game with as both bowlers we're smashed for around 6-7 an over, as the New Zealand batsmen we're taking the opportunity to with field set, to try and get as many runs on the board as possible, before the fielding restrictions opened up.

Ponting had to make some changes, and so he bought in his 2 best bowlers, Bracken and Mitch Johnson, but in the minds of the Kiwi batsmen it seemed like they we're playing for a 20/20 match, as they even smashed Bracken arguably the best one day bowler in the world, over the fielders and into the fence. Bracken went for 8 off his first over, while Mitch Johnson was terrible, conceeding 13 runs from his first over.
Ponting needed to slow things down a hell of a lot, because with this run rate, New Zealand were easily going to chase down the Aussies target. So Ponting bought on David Hussey and Michael Clarke, two part time spinners to try and slow the run rate down just that fraction.

Well the good thing for the Aussies is that the run rate did drop considerably. Going from 7.4 runs per over to 4.3 runs per over which is a massive drop in the space of 2 overs.
A little bit of luck was with the New Zealand side though, when David Hussey shot in a spinner, which turned in this pitch which is becoming pretty dry and is starting to crack up. The ball turned and struck Ryder on the pads. But the replay showed the ball was completely missing the stumps, but it was worth a shout.

Missing stumps.. not out!

Ryderout.jpg

It was Jesse Ryder that had that little scare moments ago, and before that Ryder was playing beautifully. One of the better games i have seen him play for the Black Caps. And with that decision, Ryder went on to make a couple of more singles to knotch up another well deserved half century here in Christchurch. Shows he is in good form after making a half century in Auckland last week. Only from 48 balls, with 7 boundaries and more importantly 3 sixes from his Innings, Ryder will be looking to continue on, and reach the ton.

Ryder50.jpg

But after his half century celebrations, Ryder, just like last match, wasn't able to capatalize, as his wicket was taken. Dave Hussey was the man to take the wicket, as kudos to Ricky Ponting for bringing Hussey on at such a critical time as he had bowled brilliantly, and now has taken the wicket of the dangerous Ryder who went out on 60. Ryder tried to go after Hussey, but smashed the ball right to the man that was on the fence because of the fielding restrictions, as Ponting knew that part of the ground was one of Ryder's favourite to hit the ball.
Peter Fulton is the new man to the crease, as Australia have some breathing space at the moment.

Australia get their man, gone for 60

New Zealand: 119/2 (off 20 overs)

R. Taylor: not out 29*
P. Fulton: not out 0*

Last wicket
J. Ryder: c. M. Johnson b. D. Hussey - 60

Partnership.. Partnership is what Kiwis need at the moment. Kiwis are capable of collapsing in Windies style :p Lets see what happens.

Ryder and Taylor had a exellent partnership going on, until Hussey took that wicket, so let's see if Fulton and Taylor can bring it on

Thanks for the comments :)

The Kiwis are still in control but Australia just need a few wickets. C'mon Australia! :banana2

Just a bit of advice, but I think you need to proof read before submitting. There are a few spelling mistakes and some sentences ramble on a bit, like this:

Dave Hussey was the man to take the wicket, as kudos to Ricky Ponting for bringing Hussey on at such a critical time as he had bowled brilliantly, and now has taken the wicket of the dangerous Ryder who went out on 60.

Also you keep saying "we're" which means we are, when you mean to say "were", e.g.

have been very poor to begin the game with as both bowlers we're smashed for around 6-7 an over

Apart from that though, a good update, and nice graphics. Ryder played very well, but his wicket is a big one for the Aussies and I can't see Fulton hanging around for too long, so I think Australia will win this.

It just striked me, how come Ryder is RHB? isn't he a left handed? :p

Australia in New Zealand
New Zealand vs Australia
2nd ODI match
35th over

Easy going for a long time!

Very very slow action over the past 15 overs since we last updated, has seen very limited highlights in the match. No wickets have been taken, which has taken a lot of sting out of the match. A lot of dot balls, and not too many boundaries haven't been scored, which has made the game come to a complete hault at the current time. Ross Taylor and Peter Fulton have been troubled by some good return bowling from the Australian bowlers, who have re-grouped and have bought on their better bowlers in Bracken and Johnson.
Singles, and twos have all that has been scored by the Kiwi batsmen for the last 15 overs, but we've only seen 2 boundaries scored.

Australia didn't have any luck through their 2 best bowlers, so they had to bring the part time spinners back into the attack, as they've had some little succes against the Kiwi batsmen. Dave Hussey who picked up the wicket off Ryder, shot a ball at Fulton who tried to play the sweep shot, but was caught in the pads, and looked in trouble for a second, as the ball pitched him infront. But the replay showing that the ball was going to completely miss the stumps
That was the only highlight of the 15 overs so far!

Close, but not close enough :p

But some good news for the New Zealand fans at the ground, another milestone reached the dressing room, as Rossy Taylor made his way to his half century, and making it in fine fashion. Blistering out of the blocks early while the field was set only being able to have 2 men outside the ring. Taylor decided to go big at that stage, maybe knowing he might not be there at the end when the last 10-5 overs where the big hitting needs to be done. Then he just slowed down his run rate, and slowly creeped his way to the 50, with singles and twos in the last 5 overs, which now brings him with Jesse Ryder as half centurian's in this innings, and the Kiwi fans will be hoping not the last to reach the milestone for the innings with Fulton out their at the moment, playing alright... but very very slowly, and it finding it very hard to score against this attack.

Rossy Taylor becomes a half centurian:happy

Now, being at the 35th over of the match, New Zealand need 95 runs to win. They need to be at the required run rate off 6.33 an over to win this contest, but with the Aussie bowlers getting some confidence again, it's going to be a good battle towards the end. Let's hope theirs more entertainment and a little more highlights then the previous 15 overs, so hopefully we'll see more wickets and a couple of more boundaries before this game is finished.

Told you Fulton was more of a hinderance then anything else. He needs to hit out or get out. Taylor is playing well also, as he always does for the Kiwi's.

Great presentation and nice to see you took on my advice

Haha, always good to get some advice from the members, defiently from you tom :p

Good to always get some comments. Updating tonight. 10 over update which will leave the last 5 overs to spare :happy:happy

New Zealand are in a good position and if they can post around 280 or above they will have a real chance. With Taylor at the crease it could well happen as well.

Aussies take wickets, but Taylor keeps the runs scoring

I can tell you right now that the last 10 overs have been a lot more exciting then the last 10 overs that we witnessed. The only highlight last 10 overs was the appeal against the lbw decision, which again was the major case around the 38th over here, as another appeal from the Aussies against Ross Taylor, as David Hussey caught Taylor in front of the stumps, but the replay showing that the ball just missed the stumps. Taylor was extremely lucky to survive again, and maybe this is the turn in the game which will either win or loose the match for the Aussies.

Taylor survives another LBW appeal

But there was some luck that went the Aussies way, when their captain made the right bowling changes at the right time. After bringing back Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus into the attack, and once again both bowlers we're giving away too many runs, so the Skipper bought the two spinners back into the attack to try and slow down the run rate.
The pitch was starting to crack due to the hot heat throughout the day, which is where the skipper was asking his bowlers to hit, to try and get some movement off the cracks to try and snatch a wicket here.

It's exactly what they got, as the slow Peter Fulton was the unlucky batsmen that faced the ball that hit the crack which gave movement to the ball. A edge onto the ball which gave the ball some air. The ball sailed in the air towards the Aussie skipper, and without any mistakes, the skipper took the catch of Fulton who went for 24.

Skipper takes the catch, as Fulton leaves for 24

Australia had their tails up, and with the perfect result in taking a wicket, as the Australian's took another wicket in consession. Scott Styris was the next batsmen to the crease, but then he was the next batsmen to leave the crease, as he didn't trouble the scorers, when Ben Hilfenhaus made the late swing against the veteran Kiwi, as the last few overs were coming up quickly, so it put pressure on the batsmen, and not being comfortable out in the middle, the Aussies took the opportunity to take the wicket of Styris. Simon Katich was the player that took the catch, and with consecutive wickets, Australia have now got the upper hand in the match, and have the momentum

Australia get back the momentum :happy

Styriswicket.jpg

But maybe this man has something to do about the Aussies gaining the momentum back. Ross Taylor has been a major difference between the two sides this afternoon, and maybe he, off his own bat, has given New Zealand this massive chance of beating the Aussies in the second One Day match. Taylor at the 43rd over off the match reached a well deserved century from 106 balls, at a 100% strike rate which is fantastic and a dominant display from the top order player. 8 sixes from Taylor has been entertaining to watch, as he took the pressure off his other batsmen.

Taylor has now given the chance for New Zealand to win the match, as he reached his century and only now needing 16 runs off 24 balls. It's easy enough to achieve, but the Aussies will be looking to shut this game down before it gets out of their hands.

Rossy Taylor gives hope to the Kiwis :noway

Taylor100.jpg

So here we go. 4 overs to go. 24 balls left, and New Zealand only need 16 runs to win the match. With Ross Taylor at the crease, just reaching his century it is looking like a easy New Zealand win, which will level the series. But can the Aussies make some dot balls to try and stop the Kiwi's from reaching this target within the 4 over period. Can they do it... we'll find out in the next update:happy:happy

New Zealand: 252/4 off 46 overs

R. Taylor: 106* (106)
G. Elliot: 7* (10)

just where i thought they would be! 280 certainly looks on 300 may be to far to go though. Great knock from Taylor, he is a quality player. Great graphics and presentation mate keep up the great work! :)

Very hard player to bowl too, and i think we've found that out in this and the first One Day match.
Thanks for the comments :D

Surely the Kiwis have this in the bag, they only need 16 runs off 4 overs.
