Australia in New Zealand
New Zealand vs Australia
2nd ODI match
End of 5.0 overs

Australia loose all important early wicket
(Katich is the man out, again!!!)

The two Australian batsmen landed at the crease, ready to rattle things up at the start of today's play. Ponting won the toss and elected to bat first, as both Katich and Marsh need to get off to a good start here to give Australia the perfect start. Katich in particular started well last match, but gave up his wicket as he wasn't able to capatalize on that result.
Marsh however, was able to do that, and finished the innings off strongly, and made a good contribution to the end result.

Marsh looked good in the first match, as he did as well here early on in the piece. Franklin was given the new ball along with Tim Southee, as the started things off for New Zealand. Franklin was getting good swing away from the left handed batsmen, and trying to make them play at anything. Marsh was good enough to get a few balls away on the on side, to get past the fieldsmen. Marsh did look in good form once he hit a beautiful cover boundary, through 2 fieldsmen, as it just sounded superb from the bat.

Marsh looks in good form again here this afternoon

Marshboundary.jpg

Simon Katich on the other hand was giving it a little time to get going, as he didn't really watch the ball coming off the pitch, and finding that late swing from the bowlers arms. Katich was being troubled all afternoon from the bowlers, and in the end it got to Katich as he was getting frustrated as he lashed out to a shorter ball from Franklin. The ball ended up in the hands of Peter Fulton, as New Zealand picked up their first wicket of the match, coming at the 5th over stage. Australia were down 1 for 26, as they now bring in the Captain, Ricky Ponting

Katich again is bought down early in an innings

Katichwicket-2.jpg

So as Australia fall down to the one wicket, Shaun Marsh is playing nicely as he sits on 12. Ricky Ponting is the next batsmen to the crease, and with Simon katich back in the pavillion after only making 8 runs, he'll be utterly dissapointed with himself.

Australia:26/1 (off 5.0 overs)
S. Marsh: 12*
R. Ponting: 0*

Last wicket
S. Katich: c. P. Fulton - b. J. Franklin (8)

Not the best start the Aussies needed but Marsh has been in good form and he with Punter well Aussies can put good runs on the board. Great pres and writing Roo KIU :clap

An early wicket isn't good for Australia but I wouldn't be too bothered about that as the middle order of Australia is formidable. The best start possible for New Zealand though and they'll need to capitalise on their eventful start.

Awesome work, Roo.

2nd ODI match
End of 15.0 overs

Marsh hitting boundaries, but team mates letting him down

Shaun Marsh is playing alone hand in this Australian innings this afternoon. Just like he did just 3 days ago, in the first One Day International, Marsh, playing some good cricket here this afternoon, to be one of the differences between the two sides. Today he has produced some good strokes, and some wonderful team work out in the middle.
He has led from the front, and with his opening partner Katich gone, Marsh and Ponting needed to re-build the Australian total which slumbered after the wicket of Katich.

Ponting wasn't in such good form, and even this afternoon it took him a few balls to get into the stage to start hitting the ball around.
Marsh up the other end, was finding it more easier for himself to start hitting the ball around, as he was starting to give it to Franklin who took the wicket of Katich just moments earlier.

Some good strokes, as Marsh belted Franklin for 2 boundaries in the one over. The first beat square leg to the fence. The second was a blistering shot which was edged but was safe through leg gully area, which sailed to the fence.

Marsh hitting the boundaries, as Ponting finds the one

Marshboundaries.jpg

Ricky Ponting was finding it pretty hard to connect with the ball at the moment, as the quickness of Southee was certainly troubling him, and then the left hander over the wicket was also dangerous for Ponting to try and play at anything, so he was getting beaten a lot by both bowlers. After a wonderful shot, which was caught by a short ball from Southee, as Ponting picked it up, went straight through point and went to the fence.

But after that, Ponting had nothing against the bowlers. They were troubling the Australian Captain, which resulted in Ponting's wicket very quickly. Southee completely bowled Ponting out of the ground, as the sound around the ground was sureal. A beautiful ball which swung into the batsmen, as Ponting tried to play the shot through covers, missed the ball, which ended up shattering the stumps. As Ponting walks back to the pavillion, making only 10 runs. Australia are 2/56

Ponting found it hard to adapt to the Kiwi bowling

Pontingwicket-2.jpg

So now with Ponting back to the pavillion as he again didn't find any form here this afternoon after making another miserable total. It's now in the hands of Michael Hussey (Mr Cricket) to re-build this Australian total with Shaun Marsh who is still playing very well out in the middle at the moment.
Hussey was very good in the first One Day International match, making 44, as he was one of the better players for the Aussies as they picked up that victory. Hussey played a good innings, and will need to do that again here in Christchurch to re-assure the Aussies with another win.

hussey-2.jpg

So here is the story. 15 overs have passed here in Christchurch and Australia are sitting on 71/2 with Katich and Ponting being the 2 batsmen gone. Shaun Marsh and Michael Hussey are the two batsmen out in the middle now, with Marsh playing very well, on 27, and with Hussey being new to the crease, on 9, these two men, need to have good innings to get the Australian's back into this game.

Australia: 71/2 (off 15 overs)
S. Marsh: 27* (41)
M. Hussey: 9* (11)

Bowling stats
J. Franklin: 36 -1
T. Southee: 24 -1
C. Martin: 6-0

Last Wicket
S. Katich: 8 (17)
R. Ponting: 10 (21)

Australia in New Zealand
New Zealand vs Australia
2nd ODI match
End of 25.0 overs

Australia dominate 10 over period
(Marsh lucky to survive)

In the last 10 overs, everything has gone right for the Australian's, either you can say that, or everything has gone wrong for the Kiwi's.
A little stint in the match that happened around the 20 over mark, was one that could prove very costly by the end of the match, with Shaun Marsh being dropped by Ross Taylor in the slips, which could prove very costly for the Kiwi's by the end of the contest.

Marsh was looking very good at that stage, and the drop catch is something that the New Zealand fans would of thought, that could be their match lost at that very moment. Franklin came steaming in from the right hand side of the pitch towards the left handed Marsh, and as the ball seem to not bounce as expected, Marsh got a bottom edge onto the ball which sailed quickly towards Taylor in the slips. The ball went so quickly, that it missed the hands off Taylor and hit Taylor on the hip bone, which then bounced into the air, and fell onto the ground just centermetres short of McCullum the keeper.
A HUGE chance gone begging their for New Zealand as the most dangerous batsmen has been dropped.

Dropped catch of Marsh, will it prove costly????

Marshsafe-1.jpg

New Zealand might rue the day when they knew that they dropped the in-form batsmen of Australia, and maybe just cost them a 2-0 lead in the One Day series against the Aussies. Because after that drop catch, Shaun Marsh decided to put the pedal on the metal, and was blasting everything that came his way. Daniel Vettori came into the attack and set a different field to Marsh, but with Marsh's smarts and ability, he knew what position to hit the ball, as he glanced one down to where third man would usually be standing, but wasn't for the spinner which traveled away to the boundary.
Then 2 beautiful straight drives, both on either side of the wicket, as Marsh started to open the bat a little, and was starting to play more and more shots then he was.

Starting to open the face of the bat

dominating.jpg

Marsh then went on to make his half century, and at the end of the 25th over, Australia are looking a little more comfortable out in the middle with Hussey and Marsh at the crease now. Hussey has been playing well, since he came into the attack at number 4, and with Marsh still playing some good shots, he'd be aiming for making a century in another One Day contest between New Zealand and Australia.
It should be very interesting to see wether that drop catch of Marsh will prove costly at the end of the match, as Taylor will be filthy with himself at the current time.

Australia: 116/2 (0ff 25 overs)
S. Marsh: 50* (78)
M. Hussey: 28* (30)

Last Wicket fell
S. Katich: 8 (17)
R. Ponting: 10 (21)

Half way mark and Australia are going along very nicely, with both batsmen now settled at the crease. This is exactly the partnership they needed after the early wickets. Marsh got lucky however with the dropped catch and will need to hope that that luck stays with him.

Awesome stuff as per normal, Roo.

Marsh and Hussey are going along nicely, they can look to put Australia in a good position.

Cracking works Roo :thumbs

Thanks to you two for reading this story and commenting on it. It certainly makes the story easier to play and update if people are willing to comment on it, which i think it's been a little dead on the Gaming forum of late.

Hoping to have updates later in the afternoon :happy:happy

Sorry about the lack of updates guys, i've been kept rather busy over the past couple of days. Updates coming later this evening

Australia in New Zealand
New Zealand vs Australia
2nd ODI match
End of 35.0 overs

New Zealand, Challenging the Aussies
(2 quick wickets, Kiwi's equal the match)

Australia, in the last 10 overs seem liked they visited the past. With two left handers being at the crease, both men decided it was time, to have a little slog around the park, which reminded us very much of recent times, with Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist, the opening pair in ODI matches. Now is defiently not the case, as Australia have moved on from that duo, but with this duo making a name for themselves in this match, it's Shaun Marsh and Michael Hussey (are they the new Haydo and Gilly?)

The bowling from New Zealand of coursed helped some of the shots the batsmen played, but it was pure strength and smarts from the Australian batsmen which saw many balls hit the fence at rapid pace. A late cut from Marsh drilled through to the fence, and with Hussey playing another shot down the ground, it was starting to get a little ugly for New Zealand out their at the moment, as the Australian batsmen we're starting to get on top of this match.

Aussie Batsmen getting the upper hand

lefthander1.jpg

Michael Hussey was all of a sudden without promise, reaching his half century, he just seemed to have gotten out in the middle like just a minute ago, and now he is fastly reaching the milestone, and he has played well until that moment. The slower bowling of Scotty Styris is what got Hussey out. Trying to play a massive cover drive over the fielders hat, for the first 6 of the match, was a little short of the fence, and which saw Ross Taylor standing about 5 metres infront of the boundary rope, and as he took a easy catch on the rope, he would be relieved after the drop catch he put down of Marsh about 5 overs ago.
And now with the partnership broken, maybe the Kiwi's have a sniff here

Taylor takes a simple catch of Hussey

Husseywicket-1.jpg

That wicket now brings in the Vice-Captain of the Australian team, Michael Clarke. The blonde haired bombshell, now entres the stadium, after only scoring 11 runs in the first One Day International against New Zealand 3 days ago, he'll be looking to advance on that total and try and trouble the scorers this match, and advance on this on-going total

Micheal Clarke enters the stadium to make a mark on this match

clarke.jpg

And it's like what they say, all good things must come to an end, which is the case for Shaun Marsh, as he was the next batsmen to dis-part from the match. Just a couple of balls after the Hussey wicket, New Zealand bought up the wicket of Marsh who walked out of the match making 76 runs, another fine total which he'll be very happy with. Franklin who has bowled over 15 overs in this 50 over match was the man that finally picked up the wicket of Marsh as Marsh was trying to push the run rate back up into the high totals for the over before he was caught by Ryder at point.
A big sigh of relief comes from the body of Ross Taylor who could of taken that wicket 10 overs ago, and not have this damage done by Marsh in the long-run.

Marsh makes 76, as he is applauded off the ground

marshout.jpg

So, Australia after having both batsmen being dismissed now have 2 new batsmen at the crease, Michael Clarke, and Dave Hussey the Victorian, both are very good batsmen, so New Zealand still have their work cut out here. At the end of the 35th over, Hussey and Clarke will be their to start picking up the run rate, and try and hit the odd boundary, before the 45th over mark until they start going after everything. Australia are 4/166 at this stage, and their in a pretty good position if you ask me.

Australia: 166/4 (off 35 overs)

M. Clarke: 8 (9)
D. Hussey: 0 (0)

Last Wicket
S. Marsh: 76 (113)
M. Hussey: 43 (50)

Ah you can't compare Hussey/Marsh to Gilly/Hayden ;) Gilly and Hayden would have both made centuries of a stupidly low number of balls :p With two new batsmen at the crease the game is New Zealands for the taking. However, if these two can get themselves settled down for a few overs they can really accelerate in the final few overs. Will be interesting to see which way this match goes.

Great works Roo, keep it up :)

Yes, definitely Aussies are in very good position. But if Kiwis manage to pick another couple of wickets in next 20-30 balls, the situation will look other way ;)

Keep up the outstanding work :clap

Australia in New Zealand
New Zealand vs Australia
2nd ODI match
End of 45.0 overs

5 overs to come, and Australia aiming for 270
(Australia now on, 233 aiming for par score here)

Australia are in a good position here in Christchurch at the end of the 45th over. 233 for 5, with 5 wickets remaining, this means Australia can cut loose in these last 5 overs and try and bring a score around 270-280 odd posssible for the New Zealand team to chase down in their innings.
A lot of runs came from the last 10 overs, and their was only the one wicket that was taken, off David Hussey, only making 5 runs before he was taken back to the pavillion by Franklin.
Here is the action from the wicket, as it shows Franklin's quickness is what caught Hussey, as the ball sailed past the bat and shattered the stumps!!! No better feeling in the game for a bowler, then hearing that sound and seeing the stumps flying out of the ground and into the air.

Dave Hussey is clean bowled by Franklin for 5

Husseywicket-2.jpg

David Hussey will be very disapointed in himself after that effort, as Australia would want Hussey to be there with the 5 overs remaning as he is a wonderful striker of the ball, and he can certainly smack it a long way, and with Michael Clarke out their with him, they would of had the perfect oppourtunity to reach 300.
Brad Haddin is the new batsmen to come to the crease, and after Haddin it is now into the Bowling attack for the Aussies, so Haddin and Clarke wouldn't want to loose a wicket here and expose this weakness in the Australian line-up. Both these men will be looking to play the ball and knock the ball around to get a feel of the ball before they start going after the big slogs.

Wicket-keeper Brad Haddin comes to the crease for the remaining 5 overs

Haddin-1.jpg

And now with only 5 overs remaining. Australia look in a good position with both batsmen looking settled. Michael Clarke is currently on 45 and Brad Haddin has made an impact since coming to the crease and now is on 24. Both these men are capable of smashing the ball as well, so the next 5 overs will be interesting to watch and see if the Kiwi's can expose this tail end of the Australian line-up

Australia: 233/5 (off 45 overs)
M. Clarke: 45* (42)
B. Haddin: 24* (22)
