They came back out after the lunch break. And Australia continued on their merry way. Ricky Ponting was in his dominating force once again. Began where he left off in the 1st session of play, the Captain, just only 3 balls into the over after the lunch break, threw the anger away at the England bowlers, and smashed a ball down the ground for a superb 4.
It has been a great Innings from the Aussie Captain, and he is fastly reaching his half century. He is looking very dangerous.
Stephen Harmison hasn't had much luck with the ball this Series, and his poor display continues, as Ponting smashed him down the ground.
Ricky Ponting pushes for 4
Michael Vaughan tried Leg spinner Ashley Giles at the late stages of the 1st Session in the morning. He did some good things, it was hard to get runs against the Spinner. A few runs were scored by Ponting against him, but this time Damien Martyn was on strike against the England spinner. A beautiful action Giles has, didn't temp Martyn to slow down. He glanced a beautiful ball to the off side, and it aswell as Ponting's ball, glided along the ground and was smashed over the boundary line. Australia look in a dangerous force in this afternoon session.
Damien Martyn thrashes Giles for a boundary
Thing's weren't looking too good for England. With Ponting and Martyn smashing the 2 bowlers for boundaries in the 1st 2 overs coming back from lunch, it looked dark days ahead for the English.
Not until Ashley Giles pitched a beautiful ball to Damien Martyn, that forced Martyn to try and defend his wickets. The ball was pitched well, just infront of Martyn's feet. The pitch, with some extra bounce, caught Martyn by suprise, and it hit him infront.
The umpire was very confident that Martyn was out, but Martyn had to have a close look at where he was standing and what had happened before he was certain he would walk off the ground. Judge it for yourselves, was Martyn out, or was the ball pitched too high?
Was it out? Or too high?
We pick up play, with Michael Hussey the new man at the crease.
Australian Captain Ricky Ponting has reached his half century Just a few overs after the lunch interval. The Australian captain, played a superb Innings, and he is looking in good form. Ponting looked in good form, smashing the boundaries, and picking up the singles and 2's. Nothing could stop the dominate machine as he passed his way to 50 in the blink on an eye. Now he will be looking to continue on his dominate ways. And England will need to hurry up and pick up the wicket of the Champion, before he let's loose, and leave the English for dead. Ponting has played a brilliant Innings, hitting 4 boundaries, facing 84 balls and reaching his milestone. A warm cheer from the crowd got Ponting going.
Ricky Ponting celebrates his half century
With Ponting just making his half century, and Michael Hussey playing some good cricket, Michael Vaughan had to do something to try and break this Australian partnership. Vaughan has tried, Harmison, Plunkett, Hoggard. Has bought in some spin with Ashley Giles, so he needed something different. So he turned to his Vice-Captain in Andrew Flintoff to go into the bowling attack. The right arm fast, has been bought into the attack to try and get some wickets for the English.
Andrew Flintoff bought into the attack
Michael Hussey has been at the crease now for just over 10 minutes. With Andrew Flintoff and Ashley Giles sharing the bowling now, something completely new from just 10 overs ago, when Harmison and Plunkett (2 quicks) were bowling. Michael Hussey didn't take long to get his runs going. A brilliant shot to the boundary sparked the 25 year old. It just beautifully came off the middle of the bat. It went past the in-close fielders, and just ran away for a boundary with no fielders in site. Something needs to happen for England and needs to happen quickly.
Michael Hussey hasn't missed a heartbeat
Australia are 139/3 with Hayden, Langer and Martyn being the 3 wickets. Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey are now at the crease, and with Michael Clarke and Adam Gilchrist the 2 batsmen still to come in, Australia are still looking in a dominating position. You would expect Clarke and Gilly to post big scores, around the 40-50 mark, and even bigger if they choose. Ponting and Hussey won't go out cheaply, so things aren't looking good for the Poms.
Michael Hussey and Ponting talk tatics
Australia: 139/3

M. Hayden: 35 (49)
R. Ponting* 50 (86)
D. Martyn: 16 (22)

S. Harmison: 0/31
M. Hoggard: 1/46
L. Plunkett: 1/40
A. Giles: 1/15

England will have to pick wickets at this stage but i have a feeling that we will see another century from Ponting today . With Hussey and Poting at the crease things won't be easy for England. Nice presentation mate
With all the dominance with the Australian's. England we're feeling left out of the party. They weren't enjoying the treatment they were recieving from the Aussies and their Home Crowd. Andrew Flintoff was bowling to Ricky Ponting. And with Ponting on fire and in complete dominance, Flintoff thought he would give Ponting something to thikn about. Flintoff pitched a ball very low down the pitch. It was a massive and quick bouncer. Ponting was not ready for something like this and was in complete suprise. The worst thing for Ponting is the ball was pitched, he couldn't get out of the way in time, and the ball bounced up, and whacked Ponting right ontop of the helmet.
Ponting fell to the ground by the forced of the ball, and the power that Flintoff put into the ball knocked Ponting down to the ground. Ponting was down for a while, but was back up and raring to go.
Ponting is dazed after that shot.
After the little incident that happened between Flintoff and Ponting. Ponting didn't seem to be much troubled over the treatment he got from Flintoff. He still was playing some wonderful shots and still had his focus.
Andrew Flintoff just didn't know what to do. Not even nearly knocking Ponting out could stop him and the Aussies. They look worried.
Flintoff has nothing left?
All the talk has been about the way Ricky Ponting has been playing. Let's not forget his partner up the other end. Whom Ponting is building a good and solid partnership with. Michael Hussey was seemingly creeping up with the runs, he passed 20, rather easily and very quickly. His stroke and shots have been 100% spot on. The young man is taking charge from his Captain and that is something the Aussie crowd's would love to see. Hussey the young man is be-coming a champion player in the minds of Australian's and becoming a good solid cricketer to the rest of the world.
Michael Hussey playing beautifully
Ricky Ponting had a little scare for a minute. Andrew Flintoff was giving Ponting a really hard time, since he bought his bowling back a bit and starting to pitch the ball alot shorter then normal. Since the one that hit Ponting, there has been a little vibe between the 2.
Andrew Flintoff had the perfect oppourtunity to get rid of Ponting, but poor decisions by Michael Vaughan was the result of Ponting still being at the crease.
Flintoff pitched the perfect ball to Ponting, and Ponting played it. Just too bad for the English that there was no 2nd slip in place. 1st and Gully were in place, but Vaughan thought there was a chance of catching Ponting on the fence, more then keeping with his game plan. The ball went straight through the 2 players (slip and gully) and Flintoff wasn't very impressed.
Flintoff and Vaughan wonder's how that happened
But after the chance, nothing has happend for England. Both Ponting and Hussey have continued into their dominate ways, as Ponting smashed another ball down the ground for another boundary. That's 8 boundaries Ponting has hit now, and he will be looking to make it 3 firgures in the next couple of overs. He is sitting on 80 at the moment, let's hope for Ponting and his form, he can make it too 100.
Ricky Ponting still dominating, will he make his 100?
Australia: 189/3
Justin Langer: bowled by Plunkett: 16
Matthew Hayden: Caught: Jones, Bowled: Hoggard: 35
Ricky Ponting: Not out: 80*
Damien Martyn: LBW - Giles: 16
Michael Hussey: Not out: 34*
lol, Ponting denying any happiness for the bowlers Australia in complete control. But was disappointed about Martyn though. I would have preferred him to see for a long time with his steadiness.

Australia keep on giving England no room of Coming back into this match. With Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey dominating at the crease, smashing boundaries, bringing in the singles, it is getting more and more difficult for the English to get back into this match. Australia are 219/3 into the 56th over, so things looking damp for the Poms.
Another Boundary from Ponting
Hussey was lucky to be still in the middle. The same thing happened again as it did to Ponting, but happened to Hussey this time around. Plunkeyy was the bowler, and he pitched a brilliant ball to Hussey just outside of the off stump. Hussey seeing the oppourtunity to smash a hit to the boundary went after it. With a few cracks starting to appear in the pitch after a long day, Hussey just knipped the ball. The carry of the ball was intense, but bad judgement from Michael Vaughan again saw no 2nd slip in place, which could of by now had Hussey and Ponting sitting back in the pavillion.
Will Vaughan learn his lesson and put a 2nd slip in? Or will he continue with his tradition?
Michael Vaughan does it again, this time Hussey is safe.
With that chance going missing. It was a crucial part of the game. If they had a 2nd slip in place, Hussey would be back in the pavillion. Hussey and Ponting's partnership would be broken, and Hussey wouldn't get the emotion he is showing out at the middle at the moment.
Hussey then went on to making his half century, and is following his Captain with intent. Hussey, making 51, from 71 balls and hitting 6 boundaries along the way, didn't let anything go when he walked onto the ground. Just 71 balls faced and has already made his half century. Things are looking good for Hussey and the Aussies, but the Poms will need to get a move on a pick something up before the end of the day.
Michael Hussey reaches 50 from 71 balls
The Tea break has arrived here at the Gabba on the 1st Day of the 1st Test Match between Australia and England. It's Australia dominating the match so far. They are 219 for 3, with Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey at the crease dominating play.
Australian Captain Ricky Ponting has reached his Century. What a fantastic Innings from the Australian Captain. Ponting, has been confident since the start of the play when he came onto the middle of the ground, he has been dominant and commanding. His strokes have been brilliant. A lot of boundaries have been hit by Ponting this Innings, and it would be a nice gesture to say he got a Century in the 1st Innings of the 3 Mobile Ashes Series against England. He is showing young cricketers around Australia what it is like to be a champion of the game. With Ponting reaching 100, Australia are 260/3 and are going well. Just after the tea break, Ponting made his Half Century.
Ricky Ponting reaches Century
With Ponting reaching his Century, and with Michael Hussey also dominating up the other end of the pitch, things are looking good for Australia. Michael Hussey has made 67 to this stage, and this Partnership is troubling the Poms. A partnership of 139 between Hussey and Ponting is becoming a solid one, and one that the English needs to break and really soon too.
Hussey and Ponting Partnership worth 139
Let?s just have a look at some of the Stats Ricky Ponting has produced this Innings with himself making a Century.
