Australia's Tour of India - 7 ODI's

We were better without Tendulkar, as he disturbs balance of side. When he is in side everybody then plays as if all game is dependent on him.

When he is not in side everyone plays responsibly. Even Sehwag. We need Gambhir at opening position. Sehwag should be left at number 6 to finish games now.

Why dont we stop playing cricket then?:sarcasm You want Sehwag out, you dont want Tendulkar. I thought your pessimism stemmed from our pathetic bowling and fielding?

Imagine how owned we would have got with a full strength Australian side. Just imagine.

As I said before, maybe it is a blessing in disguise for Australia that they didnt play the original full strength side. The likes of Bollinger and McKay have impressed people and I am not too sure that Lee, Hopes or the likes would have performed as well as these two have done.

More than his bowling, we have missed Zaheer Khans batting talent in lower order. Please come back. :facepalm

Chawla should learn to bowl first.

You wont say that if you have been following Chawla in the county circuit. He is bowling far better than he has ever before.

It's time for some innovative thinking. Bring Tyagi in for the next game. How many chances are we going to give for the likes of Munaf?

What we have definitely missed is Zaheer Khan's leadership in the bowling department. He has a much greater impact on our bowlers than Dhoni does, and for a valid reason too. He knows what he is talking about and seems to have an aura about him to bring the best out of our quicks. He's often seen setting fields, spurring on the bowlers and tell in them where to pitch the ball. He's the bowling captain, and IMO should be granted vice captaincy way above Yuvraj.

I have always felt that Zaheer is captaincy material. When he is around, he would always go around to Ishant, Munaf, Irfan, Sreesanth and would give them bowling advices. But the problem with him is, he is so injury prone and breaks down too fast. If he can rectify that, he can be a better captain than MSD.

It all depends on Dhoni. Tyagi should have got his chances by now. Dhoni doesnt give the required encouragement for the newcomers in the squad. This was how he spoilt Abhishek Nayar, by keeping him in the benches and then pushing him out eventually without having him play any substantial part in the team. Now he is doing the same with Tyagi. Maybe Dhoni needs competition for that captaincy spot. He seems to be so confident that there is no one to replace him in that spot. The brave and intelligent decisions that he used to take, seems to be missing. Nowadays he takes decisions just for the sake of being "brave and out of the box".

Hope Dhoni doesnt end up like Dravid, who promised a lot initially but all those promise were clearly a result of achieving success by being in that "peak period".

I'd like to see Jadeja improve on his big hitting skills... if he does that and bowls like he's done in this sereis, I think he'll be a regular in the Indian side (atleast while playing in sub-continent).

Jadeja has impressed me in this series. Even in the Hyderabad game, he surprised me by scoring that quickly and making Tendulkar's double ton an impossible proposition (even while Sachin was still in there). THIS CLEARLY SHOWS THAT INDIA AND ITS FANS ARE CLEARLY SPOILT BY THE TWENTY20 MENTALITY! We want big hitters, the guys who constantly clear the fence without much effort. Jadeja's major critics come from that performance of his in the Twenty20 World Cup in England where he is a misfit because he cant do the big hitting and cant force the pace that is required for a T20 game.

He will suit ODI's just fine. He can be used in case we need someone to stabilise the innings in shaky times. He can also be used when we have a big hitter on the other side who needs some support to do the job. And he is young, and can also learn the big hitting while he is with the ODI team.

P.s: Jadeja is a brilliant fielder. We need such species so badly in our side. Dont use the same "scapegoat" (Jadeja) to cover up for the others who have actually failed!

I was the greatest Jadeja hater before, but he seems to be a useful option to me now.Bowls really well, terrific fielder, and if he can bring in some big shots into his game,he can be a really good all rounder for India.Even Raina was a grafter before the 2007 WC (though still used to play some attacking shots) and he seems to have brought that big hitting prowess into him.Im actually quite impressed with Jadeja in this series. But would want him to spend a season or two in the Domestic circuit before being brought into the team again.

Still misses Lee and Hauritz

As I said, maybe having Bollinger in place of Lee helped the Aussies. Lee's pace and his option to just "attack" might not have given him better returns than Bollinger. Bollinger was an unknown quantity for the Indian players and our players have had fair amount of success against Lee and have also played alongside him in IPL games (the likes of Yuvi). Hauritz? No Indian spinner has had success in India, including Shane Warne. And Hauritz was mauled out of the attack in Hyderabad by Tendulkar.

Yeah, I agree. But right now, it wont be good to drop Jadeja after he has justified his spot in the team with good knocks and good bowling.

No. We wouldn't have gotten owned. I can guarantee you that.

There's a limit to pessimism and criticism, but you're crossing it.

No he isn't. A team of Watson, Haddin/Paine, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, White, Ferguson, Johnson, Lee, Hauritz, Siddle would have wiped the floor with India and this is coming from a Pom who loves seeing nothing better then the convicts lose. Just accept it. India played shite and were lucky they didn't go up a really potent Aussie XI this series!

We don't know that because it didn't happen!

We played "shite", but there is no guarantee that we would have played worse if Australia had their full strength team.

Stop trying to turn everything around to make it seem like I'm such an arrogant Indian fan.

Chillax buddy. You're a good guy. Everyone knows that. Besides, India actually did very well to get to 170 from 27-5. We didn't play "shite". We could have played better but 170 was competitive, given the tremendous improvement we made after our middle-order let us down again. Our bowling was good too. We bowled our heart out. It could have been different on another day. :)

Credit to Australia. Well played :clap

Not necessarily. Bollinger hurt us a lot in this series, and I feel Lee would not have made as much of an impact as Bollinger did. McKay did really well in that Hyderabad match and took 3 wkts. Siddle might have performed better economically but might have gone for less wickets and considering that we only lost by 3, that would have made the big difference. Australia's batting did not miss Clarke or Haddin or Hopes because the pitches were so good that they didnt need him at all. Even if they had been there, there would have been absolutely no difference in their batting fortunes.

Had it been Gilchrist or Hayden missing out due to injury, the "impact" factor would have come in because these two have been highly influential for Australia and over their opposition teams.

I never even said that, but if that is how you feel you come across, so be it...

Oh, I am not denying players like Bollinger, McKay and to a certain extent Marsh have played very well with the vacancies that were created. Haddin and Clarke are two batsmen they have missed I feel. Haddin is miles better then Manou and Clarke is far more reliable/better then Marsh/Voges. If you had Haddin, Watson opening the innings, I think you would have seen a far more destructive start by the Aussies then Watson, Marsh. As for Hopes, isn't he one of the best death bowlers for Australia since McGrath retired which is something they have struggled with, having to have Watson bowl at the death.

I'm not saying this is a bad Aussie side. They have played well, but I am saying, imo, if this had been the Aussie 1XI and India played vs them like they did against the reserves I think we would be seeing a much more one-sided scoreline

ok, i just want to ask a simple question. have you ever seen MSD running up to the bowler....offering him advice etc in this series ?? i sure havent.
whenever our bowlers were spanked, he would just stand there with hands touching his chin.

i didnt see any cheering, any pro-activeness, any verbal exchanges from him....NOTHING !
