ok, i just want to ask a simple question. have you ever seen MSD running up to the bowler....offering him advice etc in this series ?? i sure havent.
whenever our bowlers were spanked, he would just stand there with hands touching his chin.

i didnt see any cheering, any pro-activeness, any verbal exchanges from him....NOTHING !

so you mean to say...you should be pro-active ONLY if you have the likes of McGrath and Warne ?

no matter who hes got and what hes got, as a captain its your responsibility to
always be on your toes, encouraging / advising your bowlers etc...
its your duty to extract the best out of them.

also, there was no innovative field changes, no outsmarting the batsman or trying something different. :doh

no wonder our spirits were low this series. the shoulders were drooping even before they entered the field.

MSD should be replaced as captain. its high time.

Dhoni is fine. I hate how Indian fans just call for all these changes as soon as something goes wrong. You can't just change something and expect it to become better. You have to be persistent and accept that you cannot have a 100% success rate. It is impossible.

basically, from what am seeing...hes taking his place for granted and is slowly turning into what ganguly was during the 2004-2005 era.

Yeah, I agree. But right now, it wont be good to drop Jadeja after he has justified his spot in the team with good knocks and good bowling.

Jadeja is a sort of a player who would stay firm in the crease for a long long time and keep the scorecard ticking with singles and twos. But if you want a big hitter, then nope, Jadeja is not an option at all. That's exactly where the problem lies. RJ usually bats in the lower order, and you'd normally want a lower order batsman to accelerate and score some quick runs for your team towards the end of the innings bar situations like today; this is what Jadeja is not really a master of doing. He can't possibly pushed to the middle order; it's already too stuffed with more deserving people occupying all the places. So yeah, we can't actually fit him in the team right now, to be honest; the lower order is not a position for Jadeja, and the other positions are quite jam packed. Playing him as a pure bowler isn't a plausible alternative either.

Yeah, I agree. MSD is losing it as far as his captaincy is concerned. Doesnt seem as proactive these days. Thats why I said that he needs competition for that spot. Maybe give Yuvraj a run with the T20 side.

Hasnt Dhoni been criticised right from the T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy and now this series? Its three series now that we have ended up being embarassed. Even in a few series that he won before this 'bad run', he was criticised for making the wrong moves. His problem is, he takes decisions that he thinks would turn out to be 'brave' but you dont take that approach. You just do what you think is the best option. And in that process, brave decisions occur.

Dhoni has batted well in this series. Its his captaincy that we are talking about.

the problem is no one in the team is consistent enough to be given the term of captaincy. zaheer is a good option. he certainly will do his part in the fielding and bowling dept.

also, does anyone else feel we should bring back irfan pathan ?
hes equally competent in bowling,100 times better than munaf patel in batting, and certainly..a better fielder.

Seeing the way Munaf, Praveen and Ishant give away runs, Irfan now seems to be a better option. And his batting and fielding will save/get us more runs. Get him back in! Have both Irfan and Jadeja in the team so that when we need a pacer option, we go for Irfan or vice versa.

@jkartik: But Yuvraj is a powerhouse in our T20 side. He is our best T20 batsman by a mile. Whats wrong in trying him out there? Atleast it will put Dhoni on his toes knowing that a good performance by Yuvraj will shake up his chair. If Zaheer can keep himself fit, good enough. But he has to prove that he can remain fit for long.

Also I think we should connect IPL appearence/earnings with performance in the national team. Not to let these guys think that IPL performance is enough and that the earnings they get is more than enough for them to be passengers. Ratnakar Shetty might be right. I am not sure how many players in the team would be hurting at this defeat to what they call "Australia's second string".
