Battle of the Australians: Bill Brown vs Hugh Trumble

Hmm this really is a tough one. I literally can't seperate them. I personally value good glovework very highly, and Marsh is one of the best. I think my own personal preference for Test Cricket over the shorter format means I'm going to give my vote to Marsh ahead of Bevan.

Even saying that, Bevan was an exceptional Odi player, and in FC cricket still averaged a superb 57 with the bat. Had he had a more successful test career I would almost certainly have gone for him, but as it stands I feel Marsh's success in both formats means he just edges it for me. This really is a tough one, funny that Bevans stats make him look almost like a bowling all-rounder in test cricket :p

Hard to compare these two really but despite Bevan's regular heroics against England in tight ODI matches I'm going to call it for Marsh.

Michael Bevan So tough to choose but Bevan regulary won tight games for Australia.

Ouch. I like both of 'em. Marsh was abrilliant keeper from what I hear, and a good character as well. And he's still contributing to cricket.
Bevan on the other hand, is argueably one of the finest ODI players ever. Great fielder too.
Hmm...but, I think the fact that keeping takes a lot of skill, especially in tests, and the fact that Marsh is still active in cricket unlike Bevan, I'd vote for Marsh.

Bevan not still active? Isn't he still on the playing books as well as coaching staff at his club? Not that I don't agree with your choice since you picked the same player I did :p

He's coaching? I knew he's still been playing, not aware with the coaching.
But Marsh has been much more involved with cricket around the world.

Almost certainly. I was just pointing out you weren't exactly correct ;)

The very fact that Marsh played a fairly sizeable role in Englands resurgence was almost the reason I voted for him alone, especially since Bevan merely helped us stay in the doldrums back in the day :(

A tough battle to pick but Bevan has to be one of the greatest One Day player of all time. He had the consant knack of getting Australia out of trouble when they need it most.

I'm going for Bevan. He was the lynchpin that the Australian One Day side relied upon. His ability to not just bat towards a winning position, but take the team to that winning position, makes him one of the best one day players ever.

He's probably my favourtie Australian player strangely enough.

Bevan he saved Australia on so many occasions, to go with his 50+ average in the ODI arena which is a feat in itself.

Michael Bevan, averaged almost 60 in both first-class & list a. Over 50 in ODI's, one of the greatest ODI players ever & a match winner. Tough one for Marsh, as he is probably one of the greatest wicketkeepers of all time.

6-4 to Bevan in a close battle.

Merv Hughes. Better in batting and bowling according to the stats. He also had that something special - had a great charachter.

Merv Hughes I loved his attitude and he bowled great
