Story Brendon vs Callum vs Jono - A Worcestershire Battle

Might have to get into Cricket Championship then :p

And we only have a few games left in the season now. Might try and get the rest of my matches finished tomorrow.

Uni starts tomorrow for us.

I'll probably try and get my season finished in the next week.

Points:

Leicestershire 2
Worcestershire 0

Comments:

We never had a chance chasing down that huge total. Only Pears and Flowers bowled reasonably well and the rest went at over 7.5 an over, Wheeldon the only other bowler to go at less than 8 an over (7.8).

We tried with the bat but Stafford didn't get much support as he raced away hitting 23 fours and a six in his huge innings of 162, only really Wheeldon giving him support in a 99 run partnership. Stafford and Richardson put on 23 runs at the end, although Richardson didn't score a single run but Stafford got out after hitting 3 boundaries in 4 balls off McDonald as he continues his splendid batting form in One Day cricket. So we finish first in the group with Leicestershire coming second while Middlesex won Group A and Nottinghamshire won Group B. Hampshire was the best second place finisher, as part of Group B so they also make the finals. We play Hampshire in the semi final.

Comments:

Well playing no keeper cost them the game. Only 5 runs in it in the end and Neil Dexter conceded a total of 76 byes in the match, compared to our 8. However Dexter did score a huge century but he was in the side for his batting and not his keeping. An exciting match though, 6 centuries being scored and still a result, including 4 in the first 2 innings. Kervezee played well taking 4 wickets as well as scoring an unbeaten century in the second innings after unfortunately being run out by Norris in the first innings, who also went on to make his second century in 2 matches.

Lol, 305 in 40 overs! :lol

Chris Russell was useless for me last season, hence why I tore up his contract, and Alan Richardson has been very poor this season compared to last season. He played in every match last season, but hasn't been able to find a regular first team place for a while now.

Unicorns win by 1 wicket

... yea I dunno how their number 9 managed to hit 49* either...

:lol

You should be looking at your batting, 198 all out against the Unicorns with seven specialist batsmen. :p

I was trying to be too aggressive because I underestimated their bowling. Mitchell and Rush were going to slow so I put them up to a high aggression, and then I wanted lots of runs because it was just the Unicorns so everyone was on high aggression and then we kept losing wickets :/

From my experiences "defensive" players are useless at 6/7/8 in OD matches, so I wouldn't be playing Kervezee down there.

In terms of hitting power I don't find much difference between the levels, but I find "defensive" players take much longer to settle, i.e. you can't really get quick cameos out of them down there, as they need to settle before they can score at a decent rate.

In terms of my playing XI, I like one "aggressive" opener and one "defensive opener, followed by a couple of guys who can steady the innings if needed (normally my higher rated players), then "aggressive" guys in the middle - lower order no matter what their rating is, as I think they're much more likely to succeed.

I just saw you with Kervezee down at seven, hence why I posted that, as random as it may seem. :p

Kervezee is probably best to bat at 3 in OD games, at least that's what I do with him when he's playing.

David Burton started the '09 season with a FC average of 53 (he hadn't played List A), with scores of 52no and 1, having played only one County Championship innings, in late 2006 for Gloucestershire.

Currently after 8 innings his rl average is down to 14.5 and his bowling average is 39. Despite his horrible record and inability to get games (11 in all forms?), he seems to have got through the 2010 season with his major counties contract intact. (Source: CricketArchive) He's not listed in Northants' current squad on cricinfo, but then cricinfo doesn't seem to have him at all (only the other DA Burton from Somerset 2nds).

However you do sometimes run into these people in the game (sounds like Arif may be one) who aren't all-rounders but have turned denial into an art-form regarding the fact. :p

But he's batting at 10 for the Unicorns, and the AI teams are ordered on batting ratings (outside the openers).

Comments:

We're into the final!! Now can we go win it unlike last year. It wasn't a great batting display, only Stafford, Adler and Choudhry towards the end getting some runs on the board to give us a total of just over 200 as we were bowled out in the final over.

Our bowling was a lot better and even with a 46 run 9th wicket partnership, we still managed to just get over the line, Balcombe their #10 batsman scoring 30*. Norris was the bowler who turned the game in our favour coming on in the 15th over after 6 expensive overs and started with only conceding 1 run before going on to take the wickets of Pietersen and Ervine and then finishing with great figures of 2/32. Flowers was the star in his second spell after being taken off after an over going for 8 early on but came back on to take 5/27 with 2 maidens from 7.3 overs. Pears also bowled really well taking the 2 crucial wickets of Jimmy Adams and Yaseen Vallie.

The other semi-final was also very close, Middlesex scoring 192/7 only Strauss passing 50 before Chanderpaul hit 66 and Read 40 to guide Nottinghamshire to a 2 wicket win with 5.5 overs to spare, Swann getting them over the line with 21*. So we will play Nottinghamshire in the final.

Congratz. :thumbs

I'm not sure when I'll catch back up, probably on Friday/Saturday.
