Bucknor in the news again - This time for the right reasons

Oh trust me, INT umpires get payed stacks. They are the elite. They get paid between US$332 and US$882 a Test Match.

I wouldn't call those figures a stack for 5 days work. Those figures are pure conjecture because the ICC haven't released any kind of recent figures.

Though I would suspect the umpires get their hotel and airfares paid wouldn't they? I wonder if the ICC believes this is payment enough?

Bucknor has always been my favourite umpire, I am surprised he got removed due to a couple of bad calls.
It was more than a couple of calls, mate. In fact he was in the thick of it in India's last tour to Australia as well. He's just not up to it. Nature does not randomly plan to ignore certain people and it certainly hasn't ignored Bucknor.

Its because Indian wanted it. I think he should umpire until he wants to stop. And there should be a best umpire award named after him
It's also because he's been below-par beyond an acceptable limit. Sure, the Indians had something to do with it, but if you're going to claim that his poor umpiring had nothing to do with it, you're just trying to rile people up.

Exactly. Bucknor knows the rules, that is a testament to his ability.
Knowing the rules is not a testament to his umpiring abilities... andrew_nixon probably knows all the rules of cricket by heart but that does not necessarily make him a good umpire.

The problem is that poor umpiring has done nothing to his career at all. It had nothing to do with him being dropped from Australia v India, the ICC admitted they dropped him as per India's request.

You are correct on the final point in the sense that it doesn't make you a good umpire by itself, but without a good knowledge of the game you won't make a good umpire, will you?

I understand he made a few bad calls, and I have seen anothers in different games make bad calls, but I don't understand why he was dropped and none others? There were many bad calls during the Australian tour of India in 2001, but no umpire was stepped down.

It is because the BCCI didnt have full control over the ICC

Would you happen to be among the short sighted who believe that's a good thing?

Its your imagination that BCCI controls ICC just as same way Indian fans believe they have number on Australia when actually its nothing but imagination only.
