Story Club Life - The Diary of a County Cricketer [C2007]

Thats sad to get injured.. but gud thing is nothing serious.. may be instead of pain killers, u rest urself 1 or 2 games which will help u to recover fulll... Also pain killers do have after effects ;)

Brilliant presentation btw!

Haha. You're lucky there's no break! If there was, you would've known about it! ;)

Anyway, good luck for getting fit for the match.

Ready To Go

May 10th 2007 - I awoke today fearing the worst; My arm was still a bit stiff from the injury and I honestly didn't think i'd be able to play. It was only when I arrived at the club for a fitness test that the pain seemed to die down; Those cheap painkillers were finally starting to take effect. The movements of my arm were still a bit limited but in mine and the physio's opinion, I was fit to play. Fan dabby dosey!

It's a bloody good job I was playing too because three of our key players were off on England duty. Saj, Jimmy and Fred were all off to play India in a few days so the ECB had pulled them out of this game. This would mean that key players like Dom and Mal were under more pressure to perform well and for the first time in the season, the opposition were the favourites to win.

Kent were a strong proposition with he likes of Dwayne Bravo and Rob Key in their line-up, but I was confident that we could overpower them in front of the Old Trafford faithful.

We'd be batting first yet again on an absolutely rock hard pitch. A pitch which looked like it had no assistance to the bowlers at all. However, I do think it will worsen as the game goes on and I was delighted at not having to bowl first on it. Over to you Chilts...

He just wanted to get out of training so he could spend more time on his hair :p

Joe makes a pretty accurate assumption there actually. I'll just have to hope the gaffer doesn't find out.

Nice that u play this match.. :) Gud Luck! Also,
Saj, Jimmy and Fred were all off to play India in a few days

Are u in England's squad to play India?

glad to hear you got out of that one alive, hope you do well vs Kent

and by the way, if one Geraint Jones is in the side and scores runs on you...then all your hard work will be wasted. :(

Obeying The Law

May 11th 2007 - Stewy is a bloody genius. His innings was so good that I completley forgot about the fact that Sutty made a terrific hundred and I myself composed a cool and calm 65. Admittedly the pitch was as flat as Paris Hilton's lady lumps but that doesn't take away from the fact that Stewy absolutely murdered Kent's trailor-trash bowling with a majestic 230+. The fact that I can't remember his exact score shows that no one could keep up with his brilliance today.

Right well I suppose I better start explaining my performance then eh? Well it was a solid if slightly unspectacular performance as I nudged and nurdled my way to 65, hitting only 3 boundaries. Despite the lack of boundaries, I was hitting a lot of two's and three's which shows just how much i've improved in terms of fitness.

Four3.jpg

A belting cover-drive; One for the scrapbook is that.

Four2-1.jpg

Strong off the back-foot; Don't bowl short like that to me again.

Four1-1.jpg

Spanked away; Don't bowl wide at me either.

I was eventually out to a horribly mistimed sweep shot when I was on 65; It just looped up straight to Saggersat leg slip who I didn;t even realise was there. "Ah well" I said to myself. We had more than enough runs anyway and the declaration came shortly after my departure.

Out-3.jpg

Dolly; Not even Stevie would drop that.

Chilts declared the innings on 506 following an onslaught from Brendo and it was time for us to bowl these southern softies out now.

What an innings from Law but you can't fault Sutty's 100 either.

what an innings by Law. Looks like your dealing well with the international call ups.

No Suren I am not in that squad. I'm nowhere near good enough to be called up yet! :)

thats sad.. i think u have to wait for something like, " Flintoff's injury " to replace him as the allrounder ;)

But you have done well enough and deserved to be in the England squad atleast in 15 men if not in playing XI in my opinion.

A Tail of Woe

May 12th 2007 - I am flippin' nackered! 20 bloody overs I bowled out there today. 20 bloody overs! The worst part is Chilts enforced the follow on so not only do I have to bowl more for what remains of day 3, but I also have another entire day of bowling tomorrow! This sort of strain and pressure is what County Cricket is all about so I can't really complain, so instead i'll just get on with writing about my performance.

I managed to take four wickets today at a very economical rate too. My first was that of Neil Dexter; I bowled a great ball on a good length which Neil could only edge to Sutty at slip.

Wicket1.jpg

Nick, catch, Gone.

The second wicket was Justin Kemp who must have had Rob Key tearing his hair out. Key was batting beautifully at the other end and he needed some support from Kemp but for some reason Kemp decided to have a massive heave-ho across the line. This was completley out of the blue and he soon found that his leg-stump was missing.

Wicket2.jpg

Where did that come from? Kemp throws his wicket away.

The third wicket was one that ended a really frustrating 9th wicket stand between Ferley and Henderson. I finally managed to beat Ferley with a length ball that he went through the gap between his bat and pad and clipped his off bail.

Wicket3.jpg

You could fit a bus through that gap.

The 4th wicket came in my very next over. A standard ball which trapped Tyrone Henderson LBW. Now unfortunately a certain Mr.Fraps wasn't working so there are no photos of this particular wicket.

So that left us with a day and a bit to bowl out Kent and maintain our 100% winning streak this season. We'd managed to bowl Kent out the hard way in the first innings but only time will tell us how we will bowl for the rest of game.

Scorecard-12.png

At one stage Kent where in danger of a very low total but some brave tail-end batting saw them through to something respectable.

Another good performance from the lads with me being the stand-out.
