Story Coming Of Age - A Bangladesh Story [ICC 2006]

Day 4 Session 1

The Bangladeshi bowlers have had no chances against Jaques and Gilchrist with these batsmen putting on a 133 run stand at the end of day 3 but this soon came to a close with Mashrafe Mortaza finally breaking through getting the wicket of Phil Jaques for a relatively chanceless 136 runs.

Brett Lee joined Adam Gilchrist and the onslaught continued with the vice captain hitting a four as soon as he was back on strike. Gilchrist continued to find the boundary until he was caught behind giving Mashrafe Mortaza his 4th wicket. Adam Gilchrist leaves on 81 with Australia’s lead now 564.

You might expect Australia to declare soon with Warne and Lee at the crease with such a tremendous lead and even with an insurmountable lead Brett Lee took to the Bangladeshi bowlers but eventually went for one slog too many getting stumped down the leg side off the bowling of Mohammed Rafique.

Jason Gillespie is surprising allowed a bat with Australia chasing a 600 run lead with just 11 runs left to get and he shows his intent by hitting a boundary immediately. Next over Abdur Razzak is finally rewarded for good bowling getting Shane Warne caught in close with Australia just 5 runs away from the 600 lead.

Glenn McGrath came to the crease with the bat the right way around which was surprising to all the commentators but nothing could stop Jason Gillespie from gaining the 600 run lead as he hit two consecutive fours to increase the lead to 603. Abdur Razzak eventually cleaned up the tail trapping Glenn McGrath infront adding another duck to his tally and Australia finished all out for 436 with a lead of 607 runs.

The Tigers have alot of work to do and will be looking to finish the game on a positive note but with the bowling form of the Australians it will be a challenge.

Day 4 Session 1

With almost no hope of victory the Bangladeshi openers head out into the middle hoping for a better start than what they produced in the 1st Innings but Glenn McGrath had other ideas with Tamim Iqbal edging to the slips and going back after adding just 6 runs.

Day 4 Session 2

The Australians were out on the field ready to bowl early eager to finish the Tigers off and pushing for victory but Bangladesh had other ideas with Nafees and Ahmed moving to 1 for 43 until Brett Lee trapped Shariar Nafees in front for 18

Mohammed Ashraful joined Aftab Ahmed at the crease and Ahmed continued the onslaught until he was fooled by a Shane Warne flipper edging it straight through to Adam Gilchrist and departing for 35.

The captain walked out to the middle and immediately dispatched Shane Warne to the boundary hitting a daring cut shot through the fielder at point but soon enough Mohammed Ashraful was out falling to Shane Warne stumped on 24.

Mushfiqur Rahim comes to the crease just looking to play himself into form with the game pretty much out of his hands but some good bowling from Jason Gillespie and Shane Warne putting both batsmen under pressure with the captain Habibul Bashar eventually falling to Shane Warne for 27.

Well it looks like Bangladesh still have a chance of victory....NOT!
Keep up the awesome work mate im loving this story.

Brillaint from the Aussies. Even with this a game well wrapped up, their are giving it their all. Hopefully the tail can get Bangla up to a respectable total :)

Bangladesh need to work a lot and lots in batting department... Aussies clearly dominating!

Day 4 Session 3

Australia are into the tail and looking for the early, swift kill trying not to go into the 5th day as they come out to the field but the Bangladeshi batsmen took it slowly in the first half-hour only scoring 17 runs. Despite many played and misses and some very close lbw appeals they continued at a slow but steady pace.

It was bowler Mohammed Rafique who decided to cut loose and to great effect he moved his score to 45 until the batsmen decided to take the bad light. A great session for the Bangladeshi?s not a single wicket lost and they managed to put together a 50 partnership for the first time in the match. At the end of the days play the Tigers were 194 for 6 with the current partnership at 71 runs still trailing by a massive deficit but finally some sensible batting was shown a good sign for the next test.

Current Batsmen
M.Rahim 29 (127)
M.Rafique 45 (93)

Current Bowlers
G.McGrath 16-4-38-1
B.Lee 14-2-40-1

M.Rafique is playing well,Bangladesh have a good chance of getting to a respectable total now.
