Story Coming Of Age - A Bangladesh Story [ICC 2006]

Bangla have done extremely well in restricting the Aussies to 315... Now it depends on the tempo while batting.. Lets see :)

If it wasnt for Huss and Langer, Australia would be nothing at the moment

Bangladesh 1st Innings

Day 2 Session 1

The Bangladeshi openers have come out into the middle and now one of them is leaving. Test debutant Tamim Iqbal has gotten out caught at 2nd slip by Michael Hussey not a good start by the Bangladesh team.

Aftab Ahmed comes in at 3 and is under the pump immediately with Brett Lee bowling a ripper of a bouncer. The next over Jason Gillespie tore in bowling quickly putting pressure on Aftab with a few played and misses and he was eventually drawn into a false shot becoming the second player in two overs to give Michael Hussey catching practice.

With Bangladesh 2 wickets down for just 5 runs it was up to Mohammed Ashraful and Shariar Nafees to work their way to the end of an eventful session, they completed this task while not adding to their total. After lunch the Bangladeshi cricketers will have to perform with the bat to even think about any sort of positive result.

Current Batsmen
S.Nafees 6 (10)
M.Ashraful 0 (0)

Current Bowlers
B.Lee 2-0-7-1
J.Gillespie 1-0-1-1

Well, expected this kind of start... This is where we need Bashars and Omars to play a long innings irrespective of the strikerate.

Day 2 Session 2

The Australians came back from lunch full of energy after getting the upper hand in the first 3 overs of the Bangladesh innings by taking the wickets of Tamim Iqbal and Aftab Ahmed. The Bangladeshi?s were looking to build a partnership but this did not happen with Shariar Nafees playing an irresponsible shot getting caught out in the deep off Jason Gillespie?s fifth delivery after Lunch.

Now at 8/3 after four overs the Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar joined Ashraful in the middle with neither batsman yet to face a ball. Next ball, Gillespie but down a simple caught and bowled to let Bashar off the hook for the time being. The drop wouldn?t prove that costly with Bashar only adding 13 before he gave Brett Lee a caught and bowled with Lee happy to see the back of Bashar.

A hero with the ball but could Saqibul Hasan be a hero with the bat the Tigers sure did need it. It was not to be with all-rounder Shane Watson clean bowling him on just 8 leaving Mohammed Ashraful as the only true resistance currently on a run a ball 30

Young wicket keeper Mushfiqur Rahim came to the middle and was hoping to add to his terrific performance with the gloves. He made his way quickly to 17 runs only for his partner Ashraful to edge one through to the keeper. His 45 runs were quite well put together managing to stay positive during a collapse.

224 runs behind with 4 wickets remaining the Tigers needed a miracle but was Mohammed Rafique the man to provide that? If you saw his first shot you would think so, a brilliant drive straight past McGrath. This was a sign of things to come until Shane Warne came into the attack trapping Rafique infront for 10.

Razzak comes into bat and he is more than capable at holding up an end but he will probably have to do more if they stand any chance in beating Australia. But Rahim edges one straight through to Gilchrist and is gone for 32 just four balls later.

Mortaza is in and you have to feel that the Bangladeshis will be bowling soon with the way the Australians keep tearing through their batting line up. Just as soon as he came in Mortaza goes out caught in close of Warne

Down to the last batsmen Rasel now look for Razzak to adopt the hit out or get out tactic. The two tailenders make it to the end of the session where the Bangladeshi?s lost 7 wickets.

Current Batsmen
A.Razzak 8 (10)
S.Rasel 1 (8)

Current Bowlers
S.Warne 6-1-18-2
B.Lee 9-2-27-3

Of course it don't effect it lol. I only wanna know the score :p

The pres is stunning, very neat and professional :)
Shame Bangla can't bat today ;)

Day 2 Session 3

The Australians have come out looking eager to take the final wicket so they can have another bat. The Bangladeshis are looking nervous but Razzak seems to be talked to Rasel and they do look like they mean business. Razzak becomes just the 5th batsmen to make over 10 this innings for Bangladesh but he’s eventually gone out lbw to Brett Lee after adding a handy 17 runs.

It was a very bad batting performance from the Bangladesh top order after the bowlers worked so hard to get Australia all out. The bowlers will have to produce some great bowling for them to give their batsmen a smallish total to chase

Bangladesh have made a very poor total.
Brett Lee and Shane Warne bowled brilliantly.

Thats disappointing from Bangla but expected against strong Aussie bowling lineup...

Australia 2nd Innings

Day 2 Session 3

The Australian Openers return 171 runs up and you have to feel that Bangladesh or out of the game even with their great bowling in the 1st innings. Bangladesh came out lacking confidence and that is how they played. Mushfiqur Rahim dropped Matthew Hayden on 1 with Syed Rasel on fire with the new ball forcing a lot of played and misses eventually getting Hussey caught at square leg. Australia are effectively 1 for 199.

Ricky Ponting comes out and if he fires today Australia will be in an unbeatable position. Ponting showed fine form early hitting his trademark pull shot to the boundary to get off the mark then both batsmen continued the onslaught hitting Saqibul Hasan for 5 an over until the experience Mohammed Rafique got the break through getting the Australian captain caught behind after attempting to play a late cut with just 12 minutes left in the days play.

Phil Jaques walked to the crease with just 12 minutes left in the day and played very defensive along with Matthew Hayden to ensure that they made it to Day 3 without the loss of another wicket.

Current Batsmen
M. Hayden 21 (66)
P.Jaques 2 (15)

Current Bowlers
S.Hasan 6-1-22-0
M.Rafique 5-1-6-1
