Commonwealth Bank Series Feb-Mar 2011/12

Hodge is best at opener and we have quite a few in the opening spot. Finch, Marsh and Watson are all ahead of him and Warner is a given.

Doherty seems to be selected in preparation for the ODIs.

If there was only a handful of ODIs, I could understand it, but with 8 ODIs against two teams we have the edge on already, it's pretty weird. Besides, Tassie is playing the one dayer now against us, so that would've been better preparation for Doherty. We could even have played Birt or any batsman instead and gotten the 20 overs out of Lee, McKay, Hogg, Marsh and Hussey.

Don't see all the fuss around Lyon, he's very average. I reckon a full-pace attack with a little help from the pitches will blow away both these subcont teams. 50 overs is 30 overs too long for their batsmen to fluke a win :p

yeah i agree we only need a full pace attack against sub continent teams, but the value of the spinners in the Big Bash and maybe IPL show that in T20 a good spinner is very important.

These injuries just continue to help our fast bowling. Now one of Faulkner, McDermott or NCN should get a go.

Would prefer to give Sidvicous a recall to the ODI set-up to see if he translate his form in tests to ODIs.

Hodge has always been overlooked for some reason. He's pretty much retired from domestic cricket now and has joined the traveling circus. The selectors could and probably should still pick him for T20i, hard to use the age argument when Hogg is being picked, but who knows?

Smith's T20 batting isn't great, but he's still better in every facet than Doherty, hell he even captained the winning BBL side.

I dont see a problem with Doherty for t20s, he has always been a good bowler in limited overs cricket in general.

Lyon is actually very good. Nobody justs comes out and gets the world's best player first ball and a 5 wicket haul.

Not many spin bowlers are good on the Gabba pitch.

Spin bowlers suck against india, yet lyon took out 3 best.

Another bowler out with foot injury...

Khawaja seems to be doing well. Bring him in. He's no longer blocking balls.

Anyone able to justify Doherty's selection yet? The sole reason I can come up with, is a bit of game time before the ODIs, where he is actually a handy bowler. That seems like a pretty stupid move considering how long the ODI series is though and how few T20's between now and WC are. Surely Christian or Faulkner deserved another game over the guy who had a pretty crap BBL and shouldn't be anywhere near the T20 squad.

Well Faulkner is playing domestic cricket today, but still, there's about a hundred other bowlers with better stats than Doherty.

Someone doesn't like him... :D I think he mainly got picked because there wasn't an obvious 2nd best spinner in the Big Bash. Krejza, Doherty and D.Hussey were the next 3 highest wicket taking Aussie spinners in BBL, and Doherty had the better economy vs Krejza. And given Doherty is the ODI spinner, it's not too much of a stretch to select him. In a way I'm quite glad they picked Doherty, because picking a guy like O'Keefe would have been the other option, but he wasn't in blistering form and he's not playing any other formats for Australia. O'Keefe would have been just a filler selection basically, until Lyon was fit or Warney decided to declare his availability for Aus :p

No Scott Coyte? Took 6-fer yesterday, had a good BBL, and is from NSW. Or was it you that wasn't a big fan of the Coyte? :yes

But yeah, it's got to be one of those young kids or they go back to Siddle as War says.

A tracer bullet?

Lee stopped a bullet ! :spy

I told both of you, it was one heck of shot. It broke his foot :D

Broken Foot? Talk about over dramatic. If I was going to break a bone anywhere down there I'd pick the little toe. It's hardly a major problem. It's not like it takes a lot of rehabilitation once it's healed to get over a broken toe.
