Story Cricket Apprentice

Task Two

Punish them and make it public

I would ame the players chose their punishment, they would either have to donate their match fee for the final to charity or if not make them miss the game. I think that they would give away their match fee everytime which would be something that helps the community as well as presenting a good image to the public. If it happened again I would enforce a suspension and make the player or players go to aa meetings because no matter how good the player his behaviour can and will distract others around him and if he gets away with it the other players will push their limits as well.

Second episode broadcasts today

The second episode of "Howzat for an Apprentice?", Sir Ian Botham's search for a coach for his cricket team in Los Angeles, will broadcast on US channel ABC today.

The programme will also be transmitted to the UK on BBC1, Australia on Channel 9 and to South Africa on Super Sport.

Despite the success of the first episode, in which more than 9 million Americans tuned in to watch the emphatic MC Donald get the boot, ABC chairman Donald Trump says he might not make space for a second series.

"We have to think to ourselves - will this show be a hit once before it passes it's sell by date? There's so much to look at," he said.

Botham has hit back by saying a second series may be comissioned outside of the US.

"The USA isn't the only place where cricket needs to spread," Botham explained.

"A second series of Howzat could be filmed in the Caribbean, central Europe, anywhere."

Botham gets tough
Howzat for an Apprentice?, Episode Two, 26th June 2007

Manee - 6/10. Good points, but it's no use telling players that if they win they can booze as much as they like, they'll only take advantage of that. Also, how will players like being treated like children with curfews?

Sean B - 4/10. 10pm curfews and no alcohol? The players will feel they are being dictated by you, causing unrest, low morale and losing matches!!

Willie Liebenberg - 4/10. If you are going to keep it silent until after the tournament, if five of your best players are not playing in the final the media and the fans will start to wonder. You can't drop your best players for finals. Give them a rigorous training session and hand them a fine, that's all.

Jack Teague - 4/10. As with Willie, you can't drop your best players. And you certainly can't throw them back into the pools of domestic cricket!

JJ Simpson - 5/10. Threaten to fine the players, not drop them, and give them a curfew of 11.00pm instead of 10. Obviously, the media will make a mountain out of a molehill on your "small situation" comment. That will be bad press.

Phil Deasey - 8/10. Exactly what I was looking for. Money. That's what will put a stop to their actions but also keep the fans happy. Also, you're not being help responsible for their actions. Extremely good.

Griffo - 4/10. This "good public image" from donating to charity would be bad! The players would have to go out and get drunk first! And, maybe it was just a one off? So why make them join the AA?!

The following are fired for not completing the task:

William Ako
James Edmonds

It's your responsibility to keep up to date with the tasks. It's going to get tougher from here - marks will get rougher and firings made at will.

Right, let's see, who's coming back tomorrow?

SEAN B and JACK TEAGUE

See you tomorrow lads. One of you will be fired.

Why cannot drop our best players? if they are getting drunk they cannot play as well as lesser players who are fit and healthy. I think tbh I would get far as a coach if I took this approach. I should survive the board room!

Remember, you're not out yet - the final nail will be hit tomorrow.

Oh and I'm pretty sure that some teams have done that in the past. Maybe not that early, but I'm pretty sure some teams have banned alcohol.
