Cricket Heroes - testing & feedback

fearsome tweak, i'm not doing Indian teams. Someone can give me the teamlists and I'll put them in but there's no way I'm researching that all myself. I'd rather just leave out the Indian domestic league altogether.

I know it won't be happening anytime soon and is not actually needed asap but have a career sort of thing where you can load all the domestic leagues and start off with a domestic club and if you play well enough, you get to play with your country. And then you can have players age and retires and new regens into the game. But like I said, not urgent at all.

And even a manager type of mode would be nice.

Ok, anyway. About the domestic competitions, I say we have all of the different competitions and then have 'Australian Domestic Season' which has all 3 Aussie competitions, 'South African Domestic Season' which has all South African domestic teams, 'English County Season' which has all English competitions and you get my point.

@hedger_14: I like the idea about the full domestic seasons - will definitely add that. I *am* planning a career mode, but I'll only add that once the domestic leagues are working. Once all the AI is tweaked properly (hopefully by the next release), I'll get cracking on the domestic leagues mode.

yeah, you won't have to worry about the domestic leagues until I make all the players and teams for them. And cool, the career mode doesn't have to be made soon. It might take a long time to get fully working anyway.

Also before I forget to mention, you might want to give us the option to choose our/the other teams keeper as if you put 2 keepers in a lineup, then I think it automatically sets the first as keeper (I was playing South Africa and they had AB and Boucher in the side, Boucher would obviously keep but since AB was above him, he was the keeper.) I would even introduce a keeping rating, probably a rating for movement and rating for catching. Oh yeah, you need to get in dropped catches, I've never seen a dropped catch.

Since you know the most about South African domestic cricket kurt, did you want to send me a list of all the teams you want me to create with the players in each team. And maybe even for the less known players that you know or could research quickly, then you could mention their player type (BAT, BWL, ALL, WK) and their batting hand and bowling hand/type. Same with the Indians I guess if Meet wanted to do it. For the next update, I reckon we just leave out the IPL teams until after. (Or are all the players in each team confirmed now).

The one thing that amazes me though is your dedication to this game kurt. You work on this game in pretty much all of your free time even though you have no real intentions of getting payed for this (not for now anyway :p) and you have put in 100% trying to fix all the bugs, put in new features and everything. You should put your name into Codemasters and then maybe they'll create the best cricketing game ever. They've got the graphics, you've got everything else, well mostly anyway. The only thing you lack is 3d graphics which I think if you're planning on selling, you need to introduce. I'll be your trustworthy game tester :p

Ranji trophy, Duleep trophy and many.I guess ranji trophy would be ideal.

Well said mate.

And yeah I would be happy to do IND domestic.

@hedger_14 & Meet: You guys are too kind. Cricket's a passion of mine, programming is a hobby - it was a no-brainer that I should try to make a cricket game :P

Most of free (and work - don't tell my boss) time goes into this game, so getting feedback from you guys makes it all worth it.

Yeah, well I think you should get teams that play in T20, OD and FC if that's how Indian cricket goes. Like all the 6 states in Australia play in all formats. Of course OD and FC would be fine and we can get the IPL teams for the T20 competition.

haha, I had a feeling that you did work on some of this game during work, btw what actually is your job?

And yeah, the game wouldn't have really come this far without our feedback. I always like giving feedback for games but this is the only one I've really put a lot into as I know your taking it all in and updating the game regularly. (Many developers that have a whole community working on it don't even update with as much stuff as you do in a month) and I'd probably actually stop botherering testing if you updated any more often :p Of course the obvious reason that I'm testing it this much is so that if you decide to sell the game, I still get it for free as it's going to be unlikely that I can pay for it unless I can get my dad to buy it over the internet as I doubt you'd be releasing it in stores and I don't turn 18 for another few years so I can't buy over the internet myself. Of course I'd pay $100 for this game with the work you're putting into it.

@hedger_14: I'm a software developer for a billing company in Cape Town - I passed up an opportunity to work for LumaArcade (one of the few game dev companies in SA) because the money wasn't good enough :/

I don't currently have plans to sell the game, but if, once the game is finished, I can find someone to redo the UI and animate some 3D models for me, I might sell a premium version at a nominal fee. Of course, all the beta testers here who have contributed will get that version for free.

haha, as long as we get it for free, I'll try and find someway to pay you back though. Anyway, this has been a great experience really anyway, and probably the closest thing to work that I've had to do (apart from work experience and I guess school if you count it but I don't care about that :p not until this year anyway). I wish I knew how to do graphics or programming related stuff but I have no hope and after looking at once, I don't think I can have the effort to try and end up failing again. I feel like playing the game now so I might do that.

@hedger_14: Well, if this game takes off you might be able to put it down on your CV :P

I know it's frustrating beta testing a game that isn't balanced yet - but it'll get there eventually. I'm working on tweaking the simulation and AI at the moment. I think the simulation works a little better now (there's still 1 or 2 factors I need to take into account), but the AI field placing is still a bit of an issue. I've updated it to take into account *exactly* where the ball has been hit instead of a general area, so it's a bit better now. I'm still on track for a Friday release next week if all goes according to plan.

Yeah, I was actually thinking about that.

A Friday release would be perfect. Yeah, they still have men on the boundary but at least now they normally only have 2 at most. But just keep tweaking it until you get it right.

Have I tested the bowling in this version? I don't think I have. I've only really tested the batting I think. Anyway, I will probably test the bowling sometime over the wicket. Lost 2 wickets in about 15 overs today, one a run out and one LBW. I'm 152/4 after 43.5 overs, North and Ferguson new at the crease. Ponting ended up making 59 with 11 boundaries, while Hussey made 20 off 53. The LBW was pretty plumb this time around though.
