Derbyshire CCC enter a new and exiting phase of their continuing development with a crop of talent available to them after some big signings by Director Of Cricket, Mike Houghton. The comming season promises to be a long way away from the dreary performances of years gone by where draws were sparse and wins sometimes unthinkable...

--------

Key Figures

The most notable signing is undoubtably new captain Simon Katich. The wealth of experience he is going to being to the team may well be crucial to Derbyshire achieving the league positions that the current squad demand. The Australian international has been out of favour with the national side of late and will be looking to impose himself upon the selectors once again by scoring runs on a regular basis at the top of the order.

Another Australian who will play a major role this season is Travis Birt. The Tazmanian left hander is an explosive asset and will be useful to have around in the middle order to knock out some quick runs. Derbyshire stand a good chance in any one day or 20/20 match when he is still at the crease.

Boyd Rankin comes into the season fresh from the world cup where he took some big scalps including Younis Khan, AB de Villiers, Herschelle Gibbs, Stephem Flemming, Ed Joyce and England captain Michael Vaughan. He finished with 12 wickets at an average of 27 and will be looking to kick on as the new season gets underway. -

Jamie Pipe, a wicket keeper acquired to fill the shoes of Luke Sutton who moved on to Lancashire last season. He has a lot of promise. Sharp glovework and determined batting skills set this minature maistro apart. He isnt just there to make up the numbers with the bat and will be crucial to adding those extra lower order runs.

Thanks for the support already guys. Updates should be pretty regular once it gets going to stay tuned!

Tasmania not Tazmania
David Houghton not Mike Houghton
Stephen Fleming not Stephem Flemming

Good idea I will follow as im a derbys fan but get your spelling right and things of that nature

Sorry about the Tasmania thing.
I was in my DCFC mind not my DCCC mind with the Houghton thing, Mike Houghton has just resigned from our board of directors, that clears that one up lol.
Fleming/Flemming... Whatever.... Thats just picky!

Updates comming later guys.

Lol and David Houghton has resigned as Derbyshire Head Coach as well in a bid to become the Bangladeshi coach, scary huh!

He hasn't done a massive lot for us anyway to be honest. Were not much better than when he started. Also, for the purpous of this story, he hasnt resigned.

Yeh i agree, we have alot more talent now compared to previous years when we ended up with untalented youths who failed at other countys. The ian harvey situation was a bit of a shame as well as numerous injurys including probably our best bowler Boyd Rankin.

Question! Why is your username Harmison and you support derbys?
