Don Bradman Cricket 14 General Discussion

You are kidding right? Below are but two of many - these guys handing out marketing awards really know their stuff!!
The university teams push was very effective and gave them great momentum.

The product was the problem, the marketing that we got to see before the wheels fell off was effective at gaining widespread attention for a cricket video game.

I'm inspired to be a magician after ashes 2013 has shown me the light ross, please come to my first show coming next September for more information please stay with us I mean me.:rolleyes PS How is the game ross ? time for anything juicy.:D

Not really... the "talking about" figure has never been high. Indeed even now without even trying:

from what i've seen, a good proportion of your talking about figures come from people on the ashes page saying "stuff this game, buy bradman". i have no idea how that translates into people actually being more likely to buy bradman, but i assume it must be quite satisfying for Big Ant.

Really? I don't think that's how it works.... otherwise their talking about would also be up. From the Facebook insider pages:

People Talking About This is the number of unique users who have created a ?story? about a page in a seven-day period. On Facebook, stories are items that display in News Feed. Users create stories when they:
?like a page
?post on the page wall
?like a post
?comment on a post
?share a post
?answer a question
?RSVP to a page?s event
?mention the page in a post
?tag the page in a photo
?check in at a place
?share a check-in deal
?like a check-in deal
?write a recommendation
?claim an offer

Whenever a person takes one of these actions, it counts toward People Talking About This.

Yes - now. Once they went silent and put out those first shots it was all downhill - they have all those likes in the first place for a reason, from the press release they did about it:
With one winner coming from the UK and one from Australia, a total of 290 clubs entered with 16,245 votes cast over the allotted 2 week period. By the time the competition closed, Exeter and Macquarie emerged winners in a contest that saw 20,000 fans added to the official Facebook page.

It even made the news on TV in the UK, all without much actual promotional effort or spending. I think that checks the boxes for a successful social media campaign, which is what those awards would be for.

Obviously a 'talking about' figure from February would be relevant, but all the public stats say is that its their best month.

They didn't win in the end, and I don't know what their competition was. But I don't see what the professional marketers did wrong in those early phases of the campaign - it's when we started getting confessionals from Mike Fegan that it started down an unrecoverable path.

As an aside, screenshots of DB14 are great for our Facebook page stats...

?mention the page in a post

this was the bit i meant... for example as I have liked the Bradman page, if i was to post and start typing Bradman I can make "Bradman" a link to your page, and that would class as a "talking about"... this is what I meant. I have seen alot of people doing that with the link.

(To be fair, I've also seen a lot that say Bradman but don't have the link, which presumably doesn't count?)

Yeah, but because they are posting on their wall then their stat goes up by the equal amount... hope that makes sense.

of course. makes perfect sense... my brain is misfiring this morning. designing an "acquisition costs" screen, taking a lot longer than it should. time spent on here may have a little do with it.

The biggest question now is when will they show up again and what will they do.
1. Cancel game.
2. Say sorry again with a promise of a jan/feb release.
3. Release a buggy ashes 2013 in November.
4. Sell more kitchens.
5. More nothing.

Would say 65% on 1; 25% on 2; 2% on 3 (8% on 3 but Dec not Nov)

Yeah im going for 2, they will show up soon with more promises. PS I just hope DBC14 release is end of November so we can just forget ashes 2013. RIP I say.

They'll probably release in early December while ashes is still on, surely they won't release if its still buggy and there's no point releasing once ashes is finished, but they've had enough time now to have polished at least half if them!

That's why I think IMO DB14 must release between 14th and 21st Nov.

As for the award nomination, before May this year their marketing was very good, pre orders available, posters up adverts in relevant magazines a promo day at lords, it was only when the ---- hit the fan and the excuses and lies started that people (me) started to hear about big ant and change my allegiance. DB14 is the game I want now having seen all the vids etc but it wasn't always the case. And they may still get away with it if they can release during ashes.

i was originally in exactly the same position, not aware of BigAnt but looking forward to Ashes (based on knowing nothing about the game other than its existence).

i was thinking about that the other day, in relation to the two going head to head and which has the more powerful license etc. it's hard to go back to the time when i knew nothing about either game, and i don't think this would ever have been a possible scenario as Big Ant weren't looking to go head to head at the time, but...

if in June I had walked into a store to get Ashes, and saw a Bradman game on the shelf too, there is no way I am not at least picking the game up and looking at it / considering it. It's Bradman!! At that point it'd come down to features etc. And career-mode is the game changer. I would almost certainly have bought it based on career mode, or gone to a starbucks and googled to find out more about the game buying either. Not to mention, the images on the back of Bradman would be much better.
