What's that saying about judging a book by its cover...
if that had any relevance they could sell it in a brown paper bag. congratulations on making the most asinine contribution in a thread full of them.
What's that saying about judging a book by its cover...
This is my position as well really, except I'm more into tennis and follow it all season round and will almost certainly buy BA's tennis game too (based on gameplay, not covers/logos etc.).I’m perfectly aware that I am not the target audience for this cover… as mentioned my custom is assured (and would be on PC anyway so via steam).
But a simple thought experiment can put me in the shoes of someone who is a target for the cover:
Tennis is a game I’m superficially aware of, would watch if it is on tv but wouldn’t seek out, I know if one of the grand slams are on, know some of the major stars etc. I am not going to seek out a tennis game but could be persuaded to buy one…
Take that cover, replace the stumps and cricket ball with a racket and tennis ball. Make it a tennis court in the back ground and a generic non-identifiable tennis player celebrating a point… call Fred Perry Cricket 17 in that font…
Would I buy it/be attracted to it? Not sure I would.
What would be my expectation? A fast-paced if simple “frothy” tennis game, that covers the basics in an arcadey fashion, and may not have huge amounts of complexity. My question is – we know there is tons of depth and complexity in the game, but are there these simpler elements and modes too to cater for those who are drawn in by the box? Or will it lead to lots of 2nd hand DBC17s in the Game stores where people bought it but couldn’t get to grips with it?
The back cover also matters right, with the contents and features in the game, so that also adds to the whole package...In total its good IMO as it suggests a cricket game which should bring the attention, then the game's name and then the features...

Yeah, I feel that work on the cover was with an idea of going neutral without putting too much focus on the tag of "Don Bradman"...I feel such an attempt will make it a product of Big Ant Studios rather than a legend's name carrying a game..Yeah back cover will be cool to see. Maybe under wraps as reveals some so far secret features?
There was talk at one stage of regional cover stars. I wonder what happened there... cost i guess
THIS.
The front cover gets your attention - The back of the box makes the sale.
That's why I think that it works: It's instantly, recognisably CRICKET. That's enough to make anyone likely pick it up. Flip it over and, assuming the copy is good, you're sold.
The DBC 17 Cover Review
A few things to look for im more interested in knowing whether there would be localised covers for different region with star players.
