(5) Greg Chappel
(6) Ian Botham
(7) Les Ames
(8) Shane Warne
(9) Ryan Harris
(10) Harold Lawood
(11)

Yeah, that's right. Be jealous! :p

^TBH , your bowling is very weak.

Good line up, Warne and Botham stand outs definitely with KP and Larwood being very good too. Can't pick much wrong with your team....except it's not as good as mine :p

@Sifter, can we've a poll after the drafts asking 'whose team looks better and stronger?' :p

*Because I can't wait to see that how I clean sweep. :p

^TBH , your bowling is very weak.

I have two bowlers from top 5 highest wicket takers in the history of ashes series with an addition of two nasty fast bowlers. You will definitely regret saying this when my fast bowlers knock your batsmen's head off and when Warne will make them look like club cricketers. Now don't delete this post because whenever your players gets injured or humiliated, you should look at this post and realize how big mistake you have made.

Hahaha , so , think your team's untouchable ?

Have you seen my team yet ? I bet you haven't because the ones who have aren't that confident like you are. You'll say bye to your sleep after seeing.

Eddie Paynter , one of the greatest and exciting batsmen ever , he proved himself only within 7 matches (in ashes) , he could've been the leading run scorer of the ashes if he had played more matches.

You've touched on the main problem with Paynter. His stats are great, but why didn't he play more matches? If he was one of the greatest batsmen ever, why couldn't he keep his spot in the England team?

Glad he's been mentioned though...his innings in Brisbane in the Bodyline series of 1932/33 where he came out of hospital and made 83 at an important time is the stuff of legends.

The part-time wicket keeper , David Boon is considered as a legend , legendary Aussie player ,

Boon the part time keeper? Haha, I remember him doing it, but I hope that's not what he'll be remembered for. How about, Boon the great short leg fieldsman.
Good pick - I was thinking hard about Boonie.

Ah, the mud slinging starts...:lol

We can do that :yes

:eng: WG Grace
He might have been a bit of a twat,

Bwahaha - yes a bit full of himself I think the old doctor. Glad he got picked though, a giant of the game :thumbs

This is how my lineup looks now. With Jackson in, I have got a good 5th bowling option in case Miller needs to be set as a specialist bowler. Not sure what to do with that extra spot. There are a couple of very very good batsmen out there but I don't want to my team to lack teeth in the attack at the same time. What is your suggestion, guys? :p

Bowling all-rounder is the correct answer! But they are fast running out...the guys I would have suggested have already been taken: Alan Davidson and Jack Gregory earlier this round by War, and a bit earlier guys like Noble and Rhodes that I nabbed while I could. Miller and Haddin could play at 7 and 8 I guess, but in my view it really depends who your spinner is. If you can find one you really like, then you could potentially pick another batsman and get away with Miller, a good spinner and Jackson as your 3,4,5 bowlers. But if you don't really fancy your spinner, you need an extra specialist bowler I'd say. Haddin at #7 is fine, and I'm not sure there's an awesome spinner slipping through to you anyway.

Thought and thought and thought and what I have finally decided is to go with Rodney Hogg and Ian Healy.

Now lets see what I have got:

Arthur Morris
John Edrich
Maurice Leyland
Wally Hammond
?
?
Ian Healy
Johnny Briggs
Rodney Hogg
Glenn McGrath
Terry Alderman

Now that is a very solid bowling attack if you consider purely on performance, not big names.

John Edrich

Overall | The Ashes

Stocky, disciplined and full of courage. John Edrich is just the kind of opener a team would love to have. Not many can take blows on the head and ribcage and still bat on. Edrich did just that. Edrich took on the WI pace battery in the famous "grovel" test and even in the twilight of his career, he refused to give up after Dennis Lillee broke two of his ribs in 1974-'75 but that does not mean he only took the ball on his body. A prolific scorer world wide, 7 off his 12 test centuries came against Australia, a team most English batsmen struggled against. His prime came when he scored a whopping 1311 runs in 9 innings(!) before getting knocked cold by a Peter Pollock delivery in 1965.

Overall | The Ashes

2221 FC wickets at a shade under 16 a piece speaks volumes about how great a bowler Johnny Briggs was. He played most of his international cricket against mighty Australia picking up 97 wickets in 31 matches at a sub20 average. For the record, Briggs was the first bowler ever in test cricket history to claim 100 wickets. Another way of judging his bowling is that he grabbed 21 wickets in 2 tests that he played against South Africa showing if Australia did not had a great side they had, he was a much better bowler than his stats suggests but that is not it. Briggs was no fluke with the bat with 14000+ runs and 10 hundreds under his belt which was good enough for a batsman of his time.
