India are in trouble. If this partnership fails they are in deep trouble.

wonderful thread here sid. the time and effort you have put into it is absolutly amazing. first class thread. good luck mate

Actually I've put very little time into it, owing to my busy schedule (even though its vacations).

The fact that I've only covered two sessions of play till now indicates the same.

quite true i guess. however the depth you have gone into is great

One more wicket and the Indians are gone I reckon.

Yuvraj's 50

Ravi Shastri: And that's 50 for Yuvraj Singh. He's played beautifully so far, and has looked extremely confident in the middle. However its important that he keeps it going, and converts this 50 into a 100 or more. Both Dravid and Laxman before this, failed to convert.

David Lloyd: Absolutely. Although its important that Dhoni gives him support from the other end, because there arent too many who can bat after this.

Ravi Shastri: Sure does. Well Yuvraj has outscored Dhoni to get to 50 first, and that is a surprise.

This pair is getting stronger now and also comfortable!!! Bowlers might try some late swings here!!!

Dhoni's 50

Michael Holding: With that Dhoni becomes the third Indian batsmen to score a half century in this innings. Laxman and Yuvraj being the other two.

Nasser Hussain: Well played son. I thought the best thing about this innings was how he adapted his game according to the situation, especially after tea. You would expect Dhoni to be firing all cylinders, hitting fours and sixes, and entertaining the crowd, but no, he knew that if India lose one more wicket now, then any chance they have of getting to 400 will be ruined. So what he's done since tea is basically get the runs steadily, and support Yuvraj. And believe it or not, he's done the job exceptionally well. Well done son.

Jones dismisses Dhoni

Michael Holding: Simon Jones gets the breakthrough yet again for England. Another crucial partnership has been broken, and another Indian batsman, I am sorry to say, fails to convert after looking good.

Nasser Hussain: Sure is disappointing to see another batsmen get dismissed just when we thought he was going to get a big one. But full credit to Simon Jones for trying harder and harder, and finally succeeding in getting the wicket.

Michael Holding: No doubts about the decision though. It looks a bit high from the front but Dhoni was on his backfoot and very close to the stumps when the ball hit him.

David Gower: So we have had the first day's play here at Lord's and at stumps India have scored 258 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. And I think that late wicket of Mahendra Dhoni, gives England the slight edge.

Michael Holding: Sure does. I think if both Dhoni and Yuvraj were unbeaten at the end of the day's play I would say India had a good chance of getting to 400, but now with a new batsmen at the crease, that seems unlikely.

close10xf.jpg

Sunil Gavaskar: And now the pressure will be on both these batsmen, because there is no recognised batsman after this. Like Michael said, if Dhoni was still there at the start of play tomorrow with a good 50 odd runs behind his back, he and Yuvraj would both be a lot more confident.

David Gower: Well lets have a look at the scorecards. Yuvraj holds the key for India now, and he is unbeaten on 72. Mahendra Dhoni as we saw was dismissed just before close of play for 51. Earlier Dravid and Laxman were involved in a partnership 98, with Dravid scoring 43 and Laxman 50.

The England bowlers have been good overall. Simon Jones was the breakthrough man today with three wickets.

So then, we'll take a short break right now after which we'll have a look at the individual player stats, right here on Sky Sports 1.
