England in Australia

Amazing day for England. Fantastic to see them turn up for this one. Good 200 by Collingwood and 150 by Pietersen.

Pretty impressive when you look at the bowling attack.

You have to say Lee isn't performing and maybe if Australia don't win, he deserves a small rest and give Tait a run.

If Lee gets a ' small ' rest Its Mitchell Johnson who will enter the stage, not my most favourable choice but he was 12th man in this test so he is the next man in, unless they put in Watson for Lee and keep Clarke still

all in all, Dont Rest Lee

Yea what about that dude they put in the squad for Thresothick. he has only played 3 ODI'S at an average or 13 pretty naiive

Noone, not even Matt :p, was suggesting that Joyce is thrown in ahead of say Kp or Colly though. Since the only other options have played only a handful of tests between them, and Joyce has been in prolific form in County Cricket he was probably the most logical choice. He is also a fairly versatile batsman who can slot in a number of positions, good fielder too.

Just to throw something out there for discussion - Anyone else find it interesting that over the last 6-12 months are most in form players with the bat, with the exception of Kp, have been the three chaps whose places are all theoretically up for grabs? Colly, Bell and Cook (although not yet on this tour) Are all effectively playing for 1/2 places in the side if Vaughan and/or Tresco were available. That the form men in the side over that same period, Panesar, Bell and Colly may not even have played today if others were fit.

All of which leads me to the question, is our success in recent times down to Fletcher or in spite of him? Would he have played an out of sorts Tresco and a lacking match practice Vaughan, as he has done Giles, ahead of the players that in the last year have been our star performers?

Not really sure what I'm trying to say here, as I've made clear on many occassions Fletcher has done a lot for English cricket, but I do wonder whether he is now stuck in a position where his faith in sticking with players has gone too far? Past performances certainly deserve to earn you a place, but only for so long, and how long if others are outperfoming you in your absence? Add your thoughts chaps, debate away!

Anyway, for the first time in the last 9 days or so, I am in a good mood, but I still worry about us taking all 20 wickets if Giles has to pick up 5 of them.

Yea by the looks of what that first paragraph of that link stevie gave us lee isn't gonna be 'rested', and besides Adeliade pitch was a batsmenpitch so its not lees fault

and Yes, John has gone a little bit Barmy, but i guess ponting 250 hayden 150, Maryn 100 Clarke 100, Gilchrist 100 that seems pretty reasonable.

i think that if lee were to be rested they should play johnson or the 2nd spinner macgil

At Perth? no way mate not at Perth, and how can you rest someone who will be bowling at 150 km on a fast bowlers friendly pitch?

I'm with you on Lee - everyone else bowled nice and tight. But then Lee has been an awfully useful batsman of late....if only we could produce pitches to make use of our bowlers. This is sub continent type stuff.

Hope is not lost for Australia however - on the evidence of Hoggard and Flintoffs bowling, they're going to have to produce jaffers (like the ball to langer) tomorrow to get any wickets. Lee was getting a bit of reverse though so perhaps that might come into play. Who knows...I just hope I don't fall a sleep tomorrow as I did today, thoroughly boring stuff....it seems both teams are content with a draw here.

Perth is no longer a fast bowlers idea of heaven though. Unless it's changed massively in the past year, then there is a real chance of two spinners.

i think that they should have sent out someone like hildreth or someone else young to gain experience for the future

yeah but if he is not in top form is it worth the risk??

Was he much worse than Mcgragth?

well how old are hoggard and harmison and for that sake Anderson of Mamhood?

i mean a batsmen, mcgrath main cause for bad form was his ankle, and he bowled very few overs in the innings anyway
