England in India - Oct to Jan 2012/13

A mighty task for England now.The openers are looking quite settled out there.Just need to play session by session ATM.Build long p'ship by rotating strike not by defending everything

It could just be me but arguing about Panesar vs Bresnan at this point feels like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

There's definitely something mental about spin for this side. Previous England teams have lost in India but few so abjectly.

I'm talking about getting the very simplest decisions right before the off, that it gets proven a disaster doesn't stop it being one now the titanic is sinking - more like a peddalo but hey ho.

England make daft decisions before a ball is bowled, that the batsmen can't play spin is the reason we're losing but doesn't make daft decisions not daft. And a la UAE, you can bet the changes will be the least necessary not the most pressing. Like in UAE, the bowlers did little wrong and the batsmen remained unchanged :facepalm Don't be surprised if the only changes for the 2nd Test are Panesar and Finn in for Anderson and Bresnan, or something like that

Oh and instead of rearranging deck chairs would you like to bang a hole in the other side to make it sink even faster?

Aleem Dar has been all over the place today, giving not outs out and vice versa, get your ---- together Dar.

Where do the Indian players get off having a go at Umpires about the decisions though? It's something they've brought on themselves.

What happened to the pitch yo? Did someone pee on it or something?

Bell's at home for the second test anyway so if his replacement plays well he might not get back in.

I don't think they need any help.
Over the last 12 months the batsmen have continued to fail and the bowlers are now starting to fail as well. Hard to blame them when they've set up numerous victory chances which the batters have blown. I think it was amazing the bowling unit kept going for as long as it did.

There we go. The secret to tiring the Indian bowlers out and making them bowl multiple overs to is follow on. Who knew?

They couldn't have been that tired just yet, could they? After Cook, the spinners were only bowling from the same end and the quicks certainly didn't have much to do.

Reminiscent of the Aussies, India were one of the quieter, better cultured teams now theyre just about on par with the Aussies in terms of hostility and playing opposite to the spirit of the game!

Good fightback from the English, its a monumental task but I still hold the Indian bowling attack weak, once the English bat with some sort of responsibility on day four, setting a total anywhere above 150 on day 5 on this pitch against the Indian batting line up would certainly be interesting!

For once, I have seen Pietersen actually look a little clueless when he was batting which is a great sign for India. He was all over the place against Ojha and it was no surprise that he got out. This could be a key battle for the rest of the series.

I'm a bit surprised that England collapsed so poorly in the first innings. The Indian spinners are good but no Ajmal and I think the batsmen have the technique to combat this. Clearly they are mentally weak however, but a good second innings performance will set them up for the rest of the series.

For India, Zaheer and Yadav have to step up and contribute more. Zaheer was excellent for us from 2008-2010 with his reverse swing, but his fitness seems to have had a big effect on him. Right now, he looks average. He is our partnership breaker, and Dhoni would usually rely on bringing him back and he would get a wicket or two on cue.

I really never understood this. Why blame whole Indian Team when the one who culprit is BCCI? It was their decision and Indian team can't do anything but be their slaves. (Same can be said for ICC for removing the mandatory DRS rule). Also since you have started the topic of playing against spirit the game. I believe either you're trolling or you have very short memory for forgetting the Bell Incident.
