why on earth is Matthew Hoggard not in the England ODI team, he's a great bowler!!

In England Test Cricket is the main form of entertainment so we try not to overuse the likes of Hoggy in ODI cricket. Generally the management, and I completely agree with them, prefer to play the younger players in ODIs. Ones that can bat a bit as well, something Hoggard can only really do in a defensive capacity.

That and the fact that he has had moderate success only in the ODI arena.

I heard that Mumbai's crowd was rough, any pictures. Where was that girl in that crowd that wanted Flintoff's baby...cheap seats?. Who was the pack that wanted Sourav Ganguly back? How many disturbing signs were there?

wohoo..148/7. May be they realize the importance of having experienced cricketer(s) now. It was a poor performance, mainly from Sehwag and Yuvi and some terrible shots played by Raina and Pathan.

England perfectly used the conditions, bowled a very tight line!

Still early into the series, but looks like England have the upper hand after the bombay win.

2 wickets in 2 balls for Ali and India are now all out for 203, for England this is certainly a reachable target. For India it is yet another poor batting display.

India 203 all out :)! KAbir ali bowled well for 4 wickets and Blackwell was great. Plunkett was poor though despite 2 wickets..

When are we gonna learn to win batting first?

Unless England bat even more badly than India, England go into the second match 1-0 up. Sehwag - THUMBS UP!!! But sadly we need to see more abject performances from him for the selectors to think that enough is enough (i know some will come here and say he is a matchwinner, etc) but to hell with those guys!!!!! He has assumed the status of India's premier batsman and has to play responsibly, more so when he is vice captain. Doesnt he know that the wicket is grassy, has bounce and in a 9am start where the conditions are cool to aid swing?

Our tendency to be too positive at the start cost us. The intent of the batsmen (incl. Messrs Dravid) was to smash through! Did you see the shot where Dravid was dropped? Oh God! That was a god gift!!! Irfan played another horrible shot when there was no need to do it. Raina gifted his wicket with an irresponsible shot but he is in the lower scales of maturity still! Dhoni - uncharacteristic innings but doesnt always mean he will score big! Bhajji - good batting. He was very good, except for a few typical "Bhajji nonsense" shots.

Biggest culprit - Yuvraj Singh

He batted like Sehwag! We just need one Sehwag, enough! Didnt move his feet and was bowled through the edge. Kaif again made the mistake. When its Dravid at the other end and he is calling, you gotta run! And it was silly that Kaif the best runner was hesitating, and Dravid who these days is a culprit of run outs was going for that risky yet available single considering thew calibre of Kaif!

As Drewska said Plunkett showed some signs of inexperience, lucky to get figures of 2-42 (iirc). Got 2 big wickets though, Blackwell did really well, good L&L and not much for the Indians to capatalise on.

Chasing 204. should do it as we bat right down to 10 as Ali is a capable batsman.

Dravid tried his best but was undone by the pitch and low bounce. Gambhir was in good knick but got out to a poor shot.

Its basically....bad shot selection and lack of application. You cannot keep hitting boundaries, and when you're facing a top attack, you have to take time. Kaif was unlucky, but the rest of the batsmen fell for poor shots.
England should win this match, unless we see some Pathan or Bhajji specials.

Best time for Bhajji to come to form. He needs it badly. He batted well and needs to translate it to his bowling. He should not worry abt the result (its almost a foregone conclusion barring miracles which happen occasionally!). India cant afford an out of form bowler with an attack comprising only 4 specialist bowler

Dravid undone by the low bounce? The ball hit almost top of off stump!!! And mind you, very little movement off the pitch. He just inside edged it to the stumps. Of course, at times you can play poor shots too. It was a poor shot but I wouldnt blame Dravid much. His pull today was a divine sight for all watching!

India deserves to loose. I would be heartbroken if they win cos it would lead to continuation of this ideotic selection policy.

Dravid expects his batsman to play 2-3 days in Test cricket but needs 5 batsman to play out 50 overs (they couldnnt do it either) in an ODI.

Harbhajan still playing in the XI cant get more irritating than this after Powar's bowling in the practice match.

Many guys here believed Raina was the future of Indian batting , seeeing him bat today was embarrassing to say the least.Get someone like Badani in please.

RP Singh's last bowling performance hinted how ineffective he is but he still is in the team.
Good selection has to be said. Get in Agarkar for God sake.

Finally Sehwag's form or the lack of it . Kick him right now thats what can be said.

I want England to win this match by 10 or 8 wickets with 10 overs to spare.

Even bounce for Dravids wicket, may have moved in a slight bit, just played the wrong line (No seriously, I'm not joking :D)

Andrew: They were quiet/completely silent after each wicket.

Good bowling from England. Should be able to chase down this total comfortably.

Dung Piles, Strauss out third ball to Pathan.

119/5 and do India have an opening here !
No 120/6 now!!!
I don`t know why Dravid is persisting with Yuvraj, though he got a wicket.
They don`t need a 5th bowler in this game.
It is time to bring on Pathan or R.P.Singh to just knock a couple over and finish this off.
Or else, Collingwood will rally them to the target.
