I would use this eleven:

Trescothick
Strauss
Vaughan
Bell
Pieterson
Flintoff
Jones
Panesar
Hoggard
Harmison
Jones

So basically the same as usual, with the exsclusion of Ashley Giles.

Panesar most definately, he's a typical asian style spinner, big rippers and variations, i believe he has doosra.
Have trust in Jones, he's a good player, and his keeping has matured under Jack Russell.

Tresco
Strauss
Vaughan
Bell
KP
Fred
G Jones
Panesar
Hoggard
Jones
Harmison

Panesar is a SLA although CricInfo seem to insist he is a Off Spinner.

Not a very big tail though with Panesar at 8. They can all bat, but we've got 4 numbers 10s in the bottom 4.

England's pace attack will probably help the Indian batting to some degree, since most of our batsmen are strokemakers and like the ball coming on nicely. I think if England have a promising spinner in their ranks, this is the tour to select him. Even if he doesn't bag 5-6 wickets an innings, he will be able to restrict the batsmen. Also, he has a chance of picking up wickets if the Indian batsmen are going well, because our batsmen like to attack spinners.

Pace bowling will still be England's best bet, though, especially when the ball is new and is moving around a bit. Once the ball stops doing that, it will probably be runs all the way. England's batting should do pretty well, too, especially in the first innings when the pitch is holding up (except in Mumbai. :D)

It would be a bit unfair if Liam Plunkett wouldn't be selected. He did a great job against Pakistan. I would even say he could start in the line-up. He can bowl and also make some runs too.

Plunkett will be on the tour, but not in the starting eleven. Panesar however, I could see in the starting eleven.

Never heard of this panesar before. Strange name actually: pain-ass-er. :laugh
And this was just a joke. ;) Don't look much further.

Normally the spinner's spot is taking by Giles. But since he can't do much lately, it would be sensible to bring in Plunkett. I remember Vaughan and Pietersen can spin.

And I don't hear much about Udal.

So your suggesting we drop Giles and put in another seamer? Go with an all seam attack? What whacky backy you smoking? England will definately play one spinner.

Yeah, I know although I've said that, they will still play a spinner. But whichever spinner they will play he won't make much difference. But maybe on Indian pitches it will be a different story.

I am certainly hoping to see Simon Jones in action against India. Much speculations were made that his injury was a major setback to England's bowling line-up in Pakistan and he should certainly provide that extra bit of pace I think, as I have not seen much of him.

Yep, Panesar is a spinner. He seemed to have a pretty decent county championship season last year. Not quite sure will he replace Giles for the first test though. I think the selectors will persist with Giles for the first test and if he doesn't perform than they will be forced to bring Panesar in. Also Simon Jones will be certain to return back in the team to replace Plunkett despite Plunkett looking the goods as a up and coming fast bowler.

Won`t make much of a difference even on Indian tracks . 2 guys named Murali and Warne fpund it tough . So I doubt Panesar or Giles will be a lot more different in that regard ! Unless you have a Mumbai 2004 type pitch and a Michal Clarke though !
