England in Sri Lanka March-April 2011/12

Apparently Adarsh, everyone wants to go back to the glory days of the 1990s. The success that Hick and Ramprakash, and indeed the entire nation had back then, it's time we brought it back :p

As I've said a few times who do you sack them for? You don't learn to play spinners in SC conditions on the county circuit.
You have to do your learning in the middle in tests.

Considering England have only passed 200 twice in their last 7 innings I think we need 6 wickets before the close...

Ha, well it has to happen eventually. Maybe England will finally click back into gear and go crazy in the 2nd innings...

Or just predictably collapse to new lows.

One's bound to happen haha

Well England is the only team which has players consistently playing for years now.

Cook,Strauss,Pietersen,Prior,Broad,Anderson these all players are there since such a long time. You just cant be learning things now when you almost have 7-8 years of international cricket. Oh I forgot Bell, its the same old players. 7 Players out of current 11 are playing since more then 5-6 years now

In place of that if you look other countries, they have new players coming in with old ones there

Australia - Has the trio of Hussey,Clarke,Ponting rest all coming in and out kind of players

India - Tendulkar, Laxman, Dravid(He has retired now :()

New Zealand - McCullum,Taylor,Vettori

West Indies - No one actually even Shiv and Sarwan are in and out

Sri Lanka - Dilshan,Sanga, Jaya

Pakistan - Younis Khan

It's all very well saying 'It's only been 4 matches, they deserve the chance to improve', but that's how a rinse and repeat cycle will occur. We only play 6 games in these conditions at most in a row, so what's the point in letting all the batsmen off for those 6 games, let them play in the Home summer and score plenty, only for the exact same thing to occur in 2 years time when we play away again? It's not like these guys are having bad luck. KP and until today, Bell had literally scored nothing in these games.

And one more thing, Samit Patel seriously? Its like playing Jadeja in place of Rahul Dravid now for us :rolleyes :p

Man if what I wrote turns out true then I will STOP WATCHING CRICKET :p

There's still so much talent outside. James Taylor is surely one for the future. Stokes looks promising.

Persisted with them for FOUR tests ?! Gee, such a long rope. These batsmen must be privledged. Come on man, the same guys have got runs left right and centre for a few years now. They're obviously good batsmen, and it's gonna take more than one or two bad series to start sacking them.

Unfortunately you need in form batsmen or you lose series 0-3 :rolleyes And if their form continues to be poor then we'll lose this series as well. Of course they will get runs given long spells in the team, but it is getting runs when it matters and overseas that is important.

Tell me (not that I don't already know) what were the results of our last tours to West Indies, India, UAE (and Pakistan) and Sri Lanka. And indeed South Africa, in fact the only side we've won away to besides the minnows/mediocre sides is Australia ironically.

But as long as they average well and do well at home then we should never drop them. And that's not even bringing "horses for courses" into the equation, we're happy with donkeys for all occaisions

sri lanka really do need to sort their openers out, dilshan has been in horrible form and they still haven't found a 2nd one despite trying every batsman in the country.

even at 72/4 they are still dangerous though, both these guys threw their wickets away in the first innings so they're in touch and will want to make a mends.

Get Patel off. Just releasing pressure atm.

Thats what I meant, he may be the bestest all rounder but at home and international level he is not even 5% of a threat. He sucks with the bat and bowls more pathetically. I know he has got 2 wickets last innings but I am sure England have more resources then Patel back home cause if they dont they are in big trouble

Yes Taylor looks promising and thats waht I meant, England need to look for more players other then the limited pool of

Strauss, Cook for opening (what if some one has a lean patch?)
Trott is failing now more often so who next?
Pietersen has struggled all through the SC matches so who next?
Bell back home is really a ringing Bell but at away condition? A silent Bell :p

What if Prior fails? Who will keep ? Davies? Kiewestter?

and then the no7 position has always a limited pool of players

Morgan and if he fails then Bopara then if he fails the Patel then if he fails then Morgan and the cycle repeats.

Bowlers are pretty good these days and England do have a deep bowling bench strength so no worries there
