England National football team thread

Good point you made there.

Ye and to a level i reckon this is a reason why foreign leagues don't bid for English players who they might rate because they sort of know, if those english players who don't get much game time are living comfortable on those wages.

English players only go overseas in the last decade in unusual cases such a Beckham, J Cole, David Bentley, Scott Carson, Owen, Woodgate, Hargreaves, Mancienne (spell check for Chelsea).

Well, it's been a marvellous summer for England football:

U19s (or was it U17s?): Rubbish
U21s: Rubbish.
Girls: Rubbish.

Next year's World Cup, presuming we get there? :facepalm

All three levels were/are managed by long ball merchants with little regard for tactical flexibility or technical ability. What did you expect?

Which is a concern, especially given the prospects in your Youth Academy. I hope they get their chance, because there are some decent players coming through there.

There's no video yet, but we have taken youth FA Cup winner Josh Murphy on the first team's tour of the USA and he scored a screamer in a friendly last night. It shows that we are keen to bring the youth through.

Very much possible, even if Sagna is here. First of all Sagna was very average last season at right back, and with Vermaelen's injury there's a good chance he'll spend a lot of time at centre back this season, where he's played very well.

Hmm well if you think Sagna may play CB for the gunners this seasons that's certainly good news for Jenkinson. Since it will mean game time for a talent english player instead of bench time.

Or he isn't actually as good as the players in front of him or why would he not be playing?

O yeah the conspiracy that English players don't get a chance,,,

They don't get a chance because there poop..!

Regardless, if they don't get playing time, how the hell are they to improve? England players need to be playing regularly at the highest level. Being the nursery for the world's footballers isn't going to help our young players and it sure as hell isn't going to help the England team.

You say 'there poop', but what has changed in the training methods so much since Scholes, Beckham, Neville/Neville, Butt etc? Shearer, Ince, Anderton, Gascoigne? I don't think our young English players are anywhere near as 'poop' as you think, but it is a fact they're lagging far behind their foreign counterparts.

lets be honest though masterblaster, you're a man u fan. yet you want midfielders to come in and limit the opportunities of cleverly you said yourself you were disappointed they never got Thiago, he's the same age as cleverly. Also got wilfred Zaha and you're very keen on seeing ronaldo back for man u.

and should man u not have bid for RvP because wellbeck was ready to play first team football?

people want more good english players in the premier league but they all want someone else to do it as they know fine well it would make their team rubbish.

Shut up, Lee.

Ha don't take him on AB. While we all accept the shortcoming of English talent in most cases, we all of been on PC long enough to know Sir Lee is likely to rubbish every thing English, before he credits anything or any player - even if the player may be good enough.

What would be the point of Man Utd not doing what everyone else is though? We'd just end up being left far behind. That's why a foreigner cap is required, so all clubs, including Man Utd, would be forced to field more English players.

I don't want 'someone else' to do it; I want everyone to do it, including Man Utd. Everyone. So your point really doesn't fly, does it? ;)

Imagine how high the fees for English players would be if a foreigner cap was put in:eek:.

That would decrease the quality of the PL massively. There's a reason other countries don't enforce this, and that's because the players have to get in on merit alone. If English players aren't good enough at a young age they aren't going to get game time, and that's how it should be.
