Did anyone watch the u21's tonight? We won 6-0 and there were some very VERY promising performances from a lot of the players.

Will Hughes looks class, Ross Barkley has shades of Rooney about him and the two wingers Raheem Sterling & Nathan Redmond looked really threatening down the flanks.

Lets hope for a similar performance tomorrow night from the senior side :)

Nathan Redmond scored a well taken goal, terrorised the defence and set up another to take the man of the match award.

I'm especially happy about this as he's, ahem, been given a chance in the Premier League this season. :)

Shelvey was particularly impressive in mid-field i thought. That pass he sent for Redmond first goal was Pirlo-esque.

It's always nice to whack the Scots, at any level. Well played, U21s!

True, its arguably the biggest problem since 1966.

Masterblaster, Comrad Neville thinking along your lines here.

Indeed. Also:

How can it possibly help the England teams if the academies are becoming flooded with foreigners, along with the actual first team squads themselves? It'll signify the death of the English National team.

At least now the Premiership are taking an interest in England, but how are you going to do that exactly? The single best thing the Premiership can do is impose a cap on foreigners.

Improving English coaching should be higher up the agenda. Coverciano should be the template.

The rivalry is strong strong. I still have solid child memories of the ENG vs SCOT clashes in EURO 96 & EURO 2000 qualifiers. Won't mind seeing this fixture revived annually instead of waiting another 14 years before there is a next one.

Hopefully Welbeck can start scoring more goals for United this season after this because in other area's he is quite solid.

Good debut for Lambert but he would have to have a superb season for Southampton to get into the world squad (presuming ENG qualify and of course all other striker options are fit).

Today was pretty much ENG's most safest XI, except for Cleverley starting for the injured Carrick & maybe Sturridge for Welbeck. Simple 4-3-3 formation that was used in the Brazil friendly earlier this year at wembley that utilizes the basic strength's of the team.

But i do wonder sometimes especially looking at how Walker & Baines played down the flank today, if Hodgson can really get adventurous and play a 3-5-1-1 formation. IMO i think ENG have the players to play the system effectively. And also most importantly its probably the best way to enable Rooney is playing in his best best in the "hole" potion instead of up top on his own, allowing the important mid-field trio of Gerrard/Carrick/Wilshire to start (instead of sacrificing one of them) & not losing width.

It also might bring some extra solidity & pace to the defense since i'm not overly confident about the Cahill/Jaigelka pairing. The way Miller turned Cahill for that second goal as if he was Neymar was a bit troubling.

not too disappointed with that really, we played pretty well, though obviously it's a bit of shame to surrender a 2-1 lead to two goals from set pieces, it's the one place you want to avoid getting hurt if you're the weaker team.

all in all though good signs for the strachan era, we looked competent on the ball, didn't rely on long punts forward and scored probably the best goals of the match.

That was a typical 'derby' match - and easily one of the best friendlies we've had in a long time. Good display by Welbeck (Man of the Match, haters) he took his goal well.

Add in the two fletcher's and you would have a decent mid-level team i'd say

well, with the increase in teams playing in euro 2016 we really need to get ourselves in gear and qualify for that, not making the top 24 teams in europe would be a disaster.

obviously overreaction to the england scotland game.

people enjoyed it. mainly because it was an exciting match, but also because it had been so long if they played.

Playing again in february looking to cash in will ruin it. there is a balance to be had. every 13 years isn't it. But neither is every 6 months, Anyone who actually thinks about it would see that, but the powers that be won't think about it due to pound signs clouding their mind.
