England National football team thread

No no no no NO! :facepalm

We have better defenders than Terry available.

If England mimic the Premier League by pursuing Nabil Bentaleb then Three Lions may as well be scrapped - Dave Kidd - Mirror Online

Why can't England have the best of both world in football like in other English sports?

The perfect scenario would be to have a large base of quality English players & these adopted foreigners like Bentaleb & Januzaj (presuming they want to play for England of course).

If other major countries could let players like Deco, Diego Costa, Marcos Senna, Camoranesi, Pepe, Thiago Motta play for them via a combination of resident rules qualifications - i don't think see why ENG can't do the same.

That complex home nations rules for player eligibility from a English perspective needs revising; Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland can do what they want really.

Kindly list the amount of better performing English defenders than Terry this season?

Ok then, but this is strictly centre backs as that's Terry's position:

Gary Cahill
Phil Jagielka
Curtis Davies
Wes Brown

One player that is often overlooked is Michael Mancienne. Even though he hasn't really played at all this season, Mancienne was good in the first half of last season and had nailed down a starting spot before injuries intervened. If he can get a good loan deal where he'll play, I think he could have a chance at Brazil. He's linked to the PL atm.

Better than Wes Brown who is an awful defender IMO.

What - to practice playing against Costa Rica? :rolleyes

Ha well yea, them & Uruguay. ENG will obviously need as much practice versus latin american countries for those two games & based on what i saw of Honduras/Peru/Ecuadaor in world cup qualifiers - they will play similar to Chile, which is good.

I wish were were playing another Latin team in March instead of Denmark.

I recall either early this season or late season Skysports here in England, had a documentary on him & his current exploits in the Bundesliga.

I never checked on him, but if he indeed comes back to the premier league - it could help, if he might be stuck on the bench.

Ha, firstly my friend, i encourage you to seriously re-think your suggestion of Wes Brown. Go to the pub, grab a drink, go link with your girl, maybe even take a run i the park - then get back to me on this that one.

Have you watched him this season? Considering his injuries and current age he has performed very well. I'm not saying I would take him to Brazil but if I had to pick between Terry or Brown then i'd pick Brown all day long.

If I had to choose between Terry and Brown to start for England i'd pick Terry. As cover in a 23 man squad probably Brown.

Ok right, so if you had the choice, you would take a injury plagued 34 year old Brown, who has had an average career & is having a good little form right now for a side in relegation. But would not take the 33 year old Terry, who is one the best premier league defenders in history, that is playing well for a club that is 3rd in the premiership.

I'm willing to bet you would be firmly in the minority throughout England on that one ha..

But surely you pick players on their most recent performances and not those from 10 years ago. At the moment Brown is playing better than Terry.

Yeah I most probably would be in the minority but that's because your average Joe would just pick Terry on the basis that he plays for one of the top 4 clubs.
