England National football team thread

Emphasis on the last phrase. I think he will be a monster in the future. He seems to love cutting in, once he improves his shooting he'll be an asset to the top PL sides. He is just raw like a lot of the top attacking talents at his age.

Ye deep down i sort of share your views on Redmond, scored a nice hat-trick yesterday for the under 21s.

I have a question for the older (;)) fans of English football and football in general, are the generation of young players coming through right now, the likes of Lallana, Stones, Barkley, Wilshere, Sterling, Shaw, Ox etc. better than all the generations of players before them when they were coming through, especially the generation of players currently being flushed out of the national team and many top clubs' setup, or are they just equally good/bad?

I rate all of them and I'm having a bit of a problem where I'm constantly second guessing myself when it comes to young English talent, I'm basically not sure if I actually think they're good or if I'm just caught in the hype and am part of the problem... it's making me go mad. :rolleyes

I think potentially the upcoming younger generation could be equally as good as the Gerrard/Cole's/Lampard/Scholes/Beckham/Owen/Roooney/Ferdinand/Terry/Neville era of players.

However unlike their more illustrious European counterparts, English talent - even if it may be excellent, by default would get under-rated/take longer to get appreciated universally because of the bad results ENG have produced on the world stage.

Jack Rodwell?s stasis says more about football than Yaya Tour? row does | Barney Ronay | Football | The Guardian

very, very, very good article on developing english talent. starts off taking the Yaya Tour? birthday thing as its context but makes excellent points by the end. and barney ronay is always funny.

Ye although i suspect Rodwell's own body is is worse enemy as the case was with Hargreaves and Darren "Sicknote" Anderton of the past - good points for sure.

English players since 2000 as the premier league got real global and money got so good, really don't take the chance to go overseas a lot. They rather sit on the bench & get the fat wages like Rodwell got - since he wont get that in another league.

Since 1990 you could really count the amount off English players who have played overseas really: Waddle, Gascogine, Ince, Platt, McManaman, Beckham, Owen, J Cole, Hargreaves.
