Parker named as Captain for the game tonight, 10 caps and your England captain these days :rolleyes

Im not sure about the game, if Capello was in charge id be routing for the Dutch all the way, but I like Pearce, did a decent job at city while we were selling all the half decent players in his team, but he kept us mid table.

The result tonight will have no bearing on the championships either, if England win you will see the bookies drop the odds on winning the euros really low and all the papers claiming no one else stands a chance.
When you look at it subjectively, who would you rather have in your midfield, Parker and Barry, or a choice from Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas et al.

If England make the Semi-final that will be a very good achievement with the players they have

He only has ten caps, so what? He is pretty much a sure fire starter and a lot of people would agree that he should have at least double that and a few more. 7 games in the last year and in almost every game he put in a massive performance. He's gonna lead from the front and maybe we might actually see some grit and passion for once rather than overpaid prima donnas.

He's only captain for this game so I don't see the outrage in it all. I mean people calling for Gerrard to retire because he isn't captain for (at the moment) the one game Pearce is in charge? The general public have almost become as retarded as many of the modern day journalists.

Chris Robshaw is captain of England Rugby team and has played incredibly well and led from the front, yet only having one cap.

All this hype over the captains arm band...:facepalm

its pathetic,, it means nothing, its just an armband.. anyone of the squad could be captain and it would make no difference to the outcome of the performance or result..

We are pants, end of story no captain can change that

Until the England team replaces this grit and passion with talent and abaility then I wont bother following them thanks.

Well, that was fun. Such a shame to let it slip after getting back into it like that, because in the first half we did very well and apart from that patch in the second half where they scored both goals, I thought we looked quite good as well. They obviously let it go to their heads and committed the cardinal sin of losing concentration immediately after scoring. Lots of positives for me though when you consider the average age of that team and Holland were very lucky with the last goal - it was a horrible deflection.

Hope those two players are OK - Smalling and the Dutch striker - that was a nasty clash of heads.

Gotta love Cahill. Gestures Smalling to track the run of Huntelaar and then follows Huntelaar himself anyway... :facepalm

Am I right in thinking Gary Cahill wasn't good enough for Villa, re-established himself at Bolton, took part in a good 5 month spell under Coyle. Played almost every game as they then plumetted that season, and continued to struggle even worse the next season. Suddenly got into the England squad, burgled a move to Chelsea, and has since made no difference to their back four, and again been at fault positionally in an England conceded goal?

Same guy right?

(I don't know about the last point, I didn't see the game as Wednesday is 5-a-side night, 10-0 win was far more pleasing).

Pleased with how the team fought back after going two nil down, unlucky not to get a draw.

This captaincy thing is really treated with too much importance in England by the media, i really could care less who is captain (unless the choice is clearly iffy) if we continue to structure tactically in major tournaments.

The major things ENG learnt from this game for me is unless any two of Ferdinand, Terry, Lescott, Dawosn or Jaigelka (maybe King also) isn't the centre back pairing, England have a problem.

Don't think Barry should start alongside Parker for England if Rooney and if Wilshire doesn't recover in time.

The Parker/Barry base even with Gerrard playing in front of them makes ENG too slow for my liking. Would prefer Milner or maybe Cleverley to start next to Parker.

The pace players like Young, Walcott, Sturridge, Johnson and Oxdale C will be key to England scoring goals in those two EURO games that Rooney will miss. So whoever is coach needs to make sure they all once fit are in the final 23-man squad.

If we end up with Barry and Parker next to each other, we'll basically be going with exactly the same problem that Lampard and Barry dutily highlighted at the last tournament, except this time both of them are defensive minded... there'll be teams playing in the European Masters with more dynamism :p

Although, at least if we played those two (or Parker and Milner perhaps) we'd hopefully be able to forget about the joys of watching Lampard and Gerrard try and work out who is worse at hitting completely impractical 70 yard diagonal passes, and get back to just keeping the ball moving around the park looking to find the right space.

Gerrard usually only hits those passes when he's frustrated with the rest of the team and feels as though he has to do everything on his own. I can't blame him really.

In the future, I'd like to see a midfield three of:

Carrick
Cleverley Wilshere

Of course this being England, we're more likely to end up with something like this:

Parker
Milner Barry
