England National football team thread

That's a scandalous lie. He's the greatest tackler ever, nothing beats watching Scholes clock his target from 50 yards away, start the engine and then accelerate until at terminal velocity and then fly in feet off the ground and nail the player. I find it hilarious that in a 17 year career at the top, that never changed haha

i was one of those barry critics until recently.

he was outstanding against united the other week especially.

Since he got over his injury he's been excellent all season. First game against Spurs he absolutely dominated us and ran the midfield efficiently. Looked to have that yard back and hasn't slipped from that all season.

I've never seen a more spineless performance by a Utd team that I can remember, in all the years I've watched them.

Except Barry has been excellent for City this season. He was apparently carrying an injury into the World Cup where he was shocking. He's done exactly what Scholes has done for Utd, except he played in the title winning side and has more mobile legs and can tackle...

I'm by no means Barry's biggest fan, but he's had a good season, no worse than Scholes.

The Thing with Barry although he indeed did go to the 2010 world cup with a injury is that he has Yaya Toure next to him @ City, which mask his deficiencies of being slow and not serious passing ability/vision in a England, given we have no Yaya Toure like mid-fielder in the EURO squad.

The friendly vs Holland recently when both Barry/Parker played criminally exposed why not having a Carrick, Wilshire or Scholes kills any creative spark the mid-field could have.

----------

I hope Chelesa CL performance in which the spine of their defence in Cahill/Terry/A Cole can be translated to the England team in the EURO's.

ENG team for France game once all are fit (PLEASE GOD NO MORE INJURIES):

4-2-1-3:

Hart

Jones Cahill Terry A Cole

Parker Lampard

Gerrard

Walcott Carroll Young

Possible France starting XI:

4-2-1-3:

Lloris

Debucy Rani Mexes Evra

M"Villa Cabaye

Nasri

Valbeune/Ben Arfa Benzema Ribery

Indeed. It wasn't Barry that ran the midfield vs Utd, it was Toure. When you have a colossus like that playing for you, everything's going to be much easier. Is it any coincidence that QPR were able to fight back against City after Toure went off injured?

And of course, England don't have a Toure - we've never replaced Ince either. At least if we had Scholes, he could play in some of the games and give us a chance of unlocking those tight defences. As it is, I see very little creativity in central midfield.

I don't think they should play in the same team unless you're playing 4-2-3-1. I don't see why Gerrard or Lampard can't provide these options? Barry and Parker are there to do a completely different role.

Ruddy is injured!!!

And Butland moves in to replace him. Seriously, if a young player who last played in League 2 is England's 3rd choice GK, it shows how poor is English squad depth.
