England National football team thread

It just proves how weak we are in terms of quality, we still rely so heavily on players who have failed at more than one tournament.

10 year olds playing on full-size pitches...is there no end to the incompetence of the football authorities in this country? :facepalm

Euro 2012: Roy Hodgson gambles on fitness of fragile stars | Mail Online

Oh yes, their is certainly a never sense of de ja vu begging to creep in year, with yet another tournament for ENG being ravaged by injuries to many keep players etc

From the FA:

The smaller pitch and number of players allows greater number of touches of the ball and involvement in the game, helping develop greater technical skills at a lower age.

About bloody time! Now let's implement other suggestions like this and build over the next ten or fifteen years the way France did, the way Spain have done. I refuse to believe our woes are down to the lack of talent in the country - I have seen some amazing kids while watching my nephew play at his old primary school. It's down to the FA and the way they train the kids. Another thing they have to forget is this idea that a footballer has to be six foot tall and built like a tank. Ummm... Maradona? Pele? Romario? Scholes? Even Michael Owen! All of the above were fairly short players; didn't do them any harm.

That explains why foreign players seem able to cope with the amount of games in the Premiership - they didn't have their little legs run off when they were ten! English players on the other hand - did you see how tired the team seemed in the second half vs Norway? :D

That's shocking. Just tires out in a half itself. Poor kids, wondering how will they cope up to it.

The issue has always been that in kids football in England the lads that hit puberty first or go through earier growth spurts end up being the focal point of their team. Good changes, but staggering it's taken so long and telling that most kids football teams under the age of 11 already implemented these changes by themselves.

BBC Sport - Euro 2012: England's Frank Lampard suffers training injury

Surely now all those who like to take the default position that England are crap and depend on only a few players, would acknowledge that if Lampard is ruled out - ENG's injury curse once again is messing things up for the team.

Surely Hodgson should be making frantic calls to Carrick and Scholes in light of these news, instead of putting Henderson on stand-by. COME ONNNN!

Oh noooooes. The guy with the most shots on goal without scoring in a major tournament is injured. We might get knocked out in the groups... instead of the groups/first knockout round! Tragedy!

^^
:facepalm Damn i can't stand such England fans anymore, even if constant failures of the team has resigned most the total frustration.

No objectivity in the arguments, just mocking everything that happens to the team.

So when they're both fit, they can't play together. When one gets injured, it's apparently yet more bad luck?

Damn I can't stand England fans anymore. Such blind optimism regardless of the actual performances.

No objectivity in the arguments. Just blindly following them regardless.

Second chance, Roy! Get on the phone to Scholes right now! Henderson? Hender-bloody-son??? What has he done this season to deserve a place?

@Puddleduck: following England blindly regardless is part of the job description - aren't you also an England fan?

Nobody never said that Lamps and Gerrard can play together. Most ardent followers of the ENG team over the last decade has acknowledge in most circumstances, they shouldn't play together and since the 2010 world cup the best ENG mid-field should have Gerrard starting with Lamps coming off the bench. So stay on track.

I'm not suffering from any blind optimism here at all. I've followed every ENG tournament of tournament qualifying since EURO 96 and like most erudite fans in the country the disgraceful world cup 2010 performance has tempered my optimism to its lowest ebb since EURO 96 and the team needs to prove itself all over again - to win back most people's support.

You haven't heard me once claim England can win the EURO's etc in this thread.

But ENG is still my and your (presuming you are English) team and as i said, although i can understand why the frustration of years of bad results would have most people disgruntled.

However my friend you dismiss everything ENG do with constant negativity in this thread last i checked and it gets a bit boring.

If Lampard goes, that would mean we have lost Barry, Wilshire to injury (ignoring Carrick due to his self imposed retirement).

Last i checked all the major EURO teams such as Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal, Holland have not lost 3/4 major mid-field players due to injury or other reasons. They have their full quota fit and available - this is significant whether you or any other person wishes to acknowledge it or not.

You dig your own grave when you don't bother having a winter break like the rest of Europe, unfortunately.
