England National football team thread

I think trescothick was more anxiety than depression. tbh, weird as this may sound, if he had depression I doubt you'd notice it (unless it was deathly, deathly serious to the point that he was on suicide watch at half-time)

moping doesn't mean someone is depressed, more often than not depressed people are rather chirpy and friendly when all eyes are on them as a way of masking their condition.

was just linked this rather beautiful tweet from holt

good god, we have 9 year olds on this site for whom english is a second language that do better than that. possibly he was picked but mistook the tv remote for the phone.

I read Enke's biography, and I also read about depression. Obviously my knowledge is less, but I guess I know something.

Was joking about Torres BTW.

Haha fair enough :p I think Torres actually brought about an increase of depression cases in the London and Mersey areas :p As well as in the home of the Vidic's for a while.

@ Stinky. Good lord. Guy is a pillock clearly, I mean, where exactly does he think he's going to go for starters? I can't imagine he could spell any of the top 8, let alone attract them.

I'm guessing Hodgson forgot about Hooper.

Either that or you're not allowed to pick Scottish players for the England team.

Yeah, I'm sure Holt is a pillock but in footballing terms that places him above average.

So - Belgium next for England - they should provide a stiffer test than that insipid Norway team did.

Yeah, if I'm honest I'll never judge anyone on their spelling. It is never a sign of intelligence, but merely education. The two are, in my opinion, not mutually independent.

Anyway, he's a pillock for wanting to leave a club that have given him the chance to play Premiership football. I can only see him going to Villa to follow Lambert. I don't really see who else will want to spend the money Norwich should legitimately ask for.

I think I'm fairly disappointed Lambert might go to Villa. I guess they will be unlikely to get relegated, and as such can only have a better season than the previous one to his hiring, whilst Norwich will struggle to improve on their results. Still, Villa have some appalling fans who turn on managers on a whim. Two of my very good mates are Villa fans (one from Birmingham), and they reckon that the average Villa fans are up there with Newcastle/Recent Liverpool fans as most delusional, but trump them both on fickleness with seats to spare :p I don't really see what he can do there for more than a couple of years before needing to move on, so I guess he must have his sights set on a top job in the new 5 years and is using each club as a stepping stone for that purpose. Really rate him though, actually think he did a far bigger job than Rodgers.

I just love the beating Norwich with Colchester, than getting hired and winning the return leg as Norwich manager :p The back to back promotions as well as consolidation in the Premiership at the first attempt are merely window dressing haha.

More wine! Oh... it's empty :(

Based on the evidence of the Norway and Belgium games, England can't play 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 vs France or Sweden with Rooney out.

This was shown clearly in the second half vs Belgium when Wazza came on and his movement and clever passing got rid of the rigidity that the 4-4-2 had in the 1st half.

Gerrard/Parker aren't at their best given their injuries during the domestic season and their ability to influence a game is compromised. They are chasing the ball too much and they got away with alot rash tackles in the past two games, which in the EUROs would be yellow cards, which would mess England up further.

England source of goals without Rooney will be via the pacy wingers and Welbeck of Carroll up front. So essentially ENG need to have 3 in mid-field in a 4-3-3/4-5-1 set-up. They should still be able to be positionally disciplined with such a formation, which Hodgson clearly wants.

----------------------------Hart------------------------

Jones/Johnson--------Terry-------Cahill/Lescott------Cole

--------Milner------------Parker-------Gerrard-----------

Walcott/Welbeck----------Carroll----------------Young

Johnson and Jones were fairly unconvincing also in both games @ right-back, so wish Richards was playing. So really its just a toss of a coin as to which of them should start vs France.

I like how Welbeck played and i recall him playing on the right a few times for United this season - so i think playing him out their is a serious option now.

Hearing Martin Kelly's replaced the injured Gary Cahill for the Euros? Hard to not like England now, considering that's the sixth (right?) Liverpool player in their mix.

Either that or you're not allowed to pick Scottish players for the England team.

Hooper is English, unless you mean that he plays in the SPL, either way, Bevab has a point.

-------

Yeah, Haarithan you're right. Cahill is out with a double fracture of his jaw and Kelly has come in.

-------

I don't see why we can't play similarly going forward against France. It's obvious that Young and Welbeck play well together, however a similar partnership that we could use (and did at the end yesterday) is combining Defoe and Walcott.

England are pretty average. So it makes sense I suppose that the biggest percentage of players are from an average team.

Spain's side is mainly made up of Barca and Real players, Germany is mostly Bayern and Italy mostly Juventus players.

For us, the club side with the most players in the squad is Liverpool. :facepalm

Brilliant.

England are composed mainly of a team that plays in the Europa league.

Biggest joke of the year.

Ye its amazing how this happened. But on a slight bright side along with Gerrard and Carroll, Kelly is probably the only pool player who really deserves to make the squad.
