England National football team thread

On the match, thought England looked impressive and attractive to watch for once. Carrick definitely my MOTM.
He always excels against the Italians. The Italian media called him "?Il Magnifico Carrick" a few seasons back after his performance against Inter Milan.

Ha, true statement below. If as predicted the majority of England players continue to not get first XI chances between now and the 2014 world cup, it in a weird way can off-set the fatigue factor which tends to cripple us and the lack of a winter break.

Apart from presumably making players keener to represent their country, there is one other possible advantage. For years, an excuse offered for England's underachievement has been the heavy workload of their players. No longer.

Otherwise Sir Roy has pretty much selected the best ENG squad here. No issue.

All i can say is that Ash Young needs to watch his form which has been below par since the world cup, which has lead to him being dropped. At his best, i reckon he is England's most complete winger.

Both Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney seem to have bought their Euros form back to the Premiership. :facepalm

Ha yep. Although i'm hearing now that Young was overlooked because of injury.

Anyway, fingers crossed and no one gets injured this weekend and this would be my starting XI:

----------------------------------Hart------------------------------

Walker-----------------Jaigelka-----------Cahill----------------A Cole

-----------------------Carrick-----------Cleverley-------------------

---------------------------------Gerrard-----------------------------

Johnson--------------------------Defoe----------------Welbeck-------

Welbeck really struggles out wide. He's played there a few times for Utd and looked completely ineffective. He should either be played up front or not played at all.

Well yea he has been a bit hot and cold out wide indeed.

Very overhyped. He has huge potential and could be world class very soon, but he's only had a handful of great performances, and one of them was against Blackburn in a 7-1 so doesn't really count.

Shows a lot about the state of the English National Team if you are relying on a kid like him.

You don't see Spain relying so heavily on Isco, you don't see Germany relying so heavily on Draxler. Granted, they have much better talent to choose from than England, but I just don't think he's the key to suddenly give you guys success at this point in time. As the article says, look what happened to Wilshere and Cleverley, hardly reliable at this stage.

That's because the England team is in a mess and the kids can't possibly do worse than the senior guys. ;) Things aren't helped by Stevie G saying that we can win the World Cup in 2014. No we can't, Steve. Not a damn chance. Let's go there, have fun, enjoy it and maybe we'll make the quarters again, but win it? No chance in hell.

I understand that, but regardless, it is too much saying someone like Oxlade-Chamberlain will be England's saviour.

As for Stevie G saying England can win the WC, lol. Any top side's 2nd XI would have a much better chance than England.
