England National football team thread

Not much issue with the England's performance. I reckon most level ahead fans weren't too carried away with the win in Moldova so some of the old issues that were exposed by Ukraine is well known already.

Think Hodgson should give up on his love affair with Oxlade-Chamberlain. People like to berate Walcott and Lennon just having pace and no consistent end product - but Ox in all the senior games he has played has looked worse to me.

Been arguing it for years, but again we really need to stop playing Johnson at right-back and the Milner/Johnson combo down the right side. :facepalm

Won't be too harsh on Cleverley. Football is such a fickle game, if he had taken those chances we would have been praising him. His movement is the role is good and he got himself into the positions at least. So i won't write of his chances of being a long term # 10 for club and country.

As Glenn Hoddle, Shearer and Wright were complaining also in the post match our center backs just dont have the technical ability to run forward with the ball. They always seem so nervous and pass sideways.

In a perfect world Ferdinand/Cahill would be the best central defensive partnership who could do that.

Still think Carrick should be a more permanent starter and Defoe when Rooney returns has certainly done enough to be a permanent starter.

Love it. Gerrard at trequartista's something I've been dying to see for ages - be it in England or Liverpool colors!

Yep, just hoping for Hodgson to try eventually in upcoming friendlies and WCQs.

Last time we played the Rep. Of Ireland, it didn't end too well from what I remember - there was a huge riot in Landsdowne Road which led to the game being abandoned. Hopefully times have moved on enough now. :)

Yes Roy speak out. We need this winter break at least for the 2013/14 world cup season. These premier league bosses don't care about England!

bit annoying really. I am wanting to go to brazil for 2014 world cup, but i'm not an england fan at all. Yet when i go i will still be tarred with the same brush as england fans in regards to their reputation for hooliganism etc.

Ha word. Well i just hope based on that strenuous schedule to travel around, that i can get to go to one major England group game and go home.

Apart from Sir Alex maybe. I'm sure I've heard him call for a winter break on numerous occasions.

Yea i recall SAF being one of the first to back Erickson when he made the call way back in 2002.

But MB my friend, if Hodgson can get a winter-break implemented that would be his greatest coaching achievement, to aid future generations.

Since if we are perfectly honest he is not likely to win a major tournament while he is coach. Getting us past the quarter-final jinx might be it, if things go perfect for him.

D'you know what I like about Hodgson? He's actively speaking out to get England pushed further up the pecking order when it comes to football in this country. He's not afraid to rock the boat, which is a good thing - because by God, does the boat need rocking! He's not only pushing for winter breaks, he's also pushing to get the TV companies to stop making top teams play on the Sunday before an International. The guy's passionate about England, and regardless of how he actually does as the coach, no one can knock him for that. :)

Damn. As much as his form for club and country meant he really shouldn't be a first team player for Hodgson anymore. Feel sorry for JT how the wayne bridge and court case situations have plagued his career over the past 2 years.

But at his peak in the middle of the decade he was certainly one of the best defenders in the world. Of the English center backs at their peaks that i've seen in my lifetime of watching football, Tony Adams, Sol Campbell and Ferdinand would be the obvious better ones.

I wonder if Ferdinand would accept a recall now to the national team now due to this.

He should crawl off a cliff and die now. What a selfish, santimonious, female orifice.

Position untenable because you're finally being made to actually answer for something you've done? Or jumping before you're pushed?

Beckham was the prime example of someone who regardless, always made himself available for his country. He accepted being dropped with diginity, and made himself an option if needed. Terry is just a pillock quitting because everything in his world is about him.
