England National football team thread

stopped reading it. most clubs lose money. i doubt the owners are popping champagne and having hedonistic orgies of celebration as if they were all CEOs at banking firms.

England could be set to host Under 21 European Championships in 2013 | Mail Online

Hmm would be interesting if the Israel situation does force this tournament to be held in England next year. Some interesting under-21 players are around currently & depending on which youngsters Hodgson wants to take on the senior south american tour that will be played simultaneously - England can have a strong team/squad:

Butland

Walker/Kelly Jones Caulkner Rose

Henderson Rodwell Powell

Sterling Ameobi Oxlade-Chamberlain

Zaha, Wicham, Tom Carroll, Craig Dawson, Wisdom, McEachran, Ince, Townsend, Clyne, Landsbury

The premier league money and power on show here from the FA. Few associations have the money and influence to be able to get a friendly in brazil @ the maracana before the world cup.

Securing Rio as a base would be great for England fans, since travelling around that country to possibly watch england would be impossible.

not even remotely bothered about england. might put on a fake scottish accent the whole time i am there.

Ha well once you going that's cool. I been saving since the start of the year as well. We probably can link up, when the times comes

little point to that unless the shoot-outs achieve something.

i'm pretty sure most professional footballers slot penalites 9/10 times in training, it's the pressure of the situation. While part of that is simulated by doing it in front of a crowd the result of the shoot-out doesn't matter, so it's not even close.

This

Nothing can compare to our standard quarter final shoot out in a tournament

And that pressure cannot be replicated in a friendly

Maybe if the crowd are so hostile that it feels like the real thing? Obviously this is for much bigger stakes, but they used to train agents when they dropped them in France during WW2 by placing them in highly pressured simulated interrogation sessions - they meant nothing either, but the person undergoing that would have the lines blurred somewhat. Not that a hostile crowd can have anything like the same effect, but it can't hurt. Just get the crowd to revert into 'club mode', so they can display an intense dislike for the players. ;)

9 out of 10 times would still yield a decisive 5-4 result in any penalty shoot out, which is what usually happens. :p

While i agree with ste_mc_efc in general, this is not a bad point here mblaster. Even a more recent example with the us army raid on the bin laden house, those seal team guys went through months of simulation training before the real thing. So i guess its worth a try from Hodgson if they can get the opposition to comply.

Yeah but soldiers are brave, loyal and willing to die for their country, something our footballers could only dream of having in their DNA

Our footballers really should never be put in the same breath as that,
