England National football team thread

Taylor needs more games before being in contention, osman has not played well for a while. so those two are out for me.

The last thing I want is Taylor playing for England. He is far too injury prone. He can't make it through a season with Newcastle without getting injured for a couple of months.

Ye i accept Taylor probably needs a solid injury free season with Newcastle before getting a call. However with Alan Pardew calling for him to get a go, i guess it depends on what the newcastle medical team tells Hodgson, if he is going to seriously pick him.

On Osman mr ste_mc_efc, i haven't watched a Everton game attentively in a few weeks. Slightly concerning to hear you say you think Osman's form has fallen enough so enough for him to be good enough for a national call, especially with Wilshire out.

Welbeck should not be in here is the proof

Players in form only should be picked

And how those those stats show he is not in form sir Lee?. If it is you are attacking is lack of consistent goals, everyone knows this is an area he needs to improve in.

However every other area in his game has been very good of late, his two performances vs Real Madrid in which he scored & did a brilliant tactic job defensively on Alonso & supporting Van Persie clearly highlights this.

Welbeck will thoroughly deserve a place in the England squad based on current form to play either as a striker or a left-winger.

Not sure if Taylor has shown enough to be considered international standard, I haven't many people who are not associated with Newcastle calling for him to play, and fans of every team over-rate their own centre backs.

I didn't really think Osman was good enough when he got his call up. He's essentially a type of luxury player. Whenever the team plays well over a few matches he is inevitably at the heart of it and in fine form. When the team doesn't play well he never individually has a good game. When things are going well he's brilliant. when they aren't he's terrible.

So we are saying 5 goals in 39 games is acceptable for an international striker?:facepalm

Even Torres has more goals

Strikers are judged and rightly so by the amount of goals they score, and forgive me for not getting to excited about Welbeck but his record is hardly one that will be frightening defenders around the world.

The FA - FATV Live

Rio Ferdinand recalled to England squad - ESPN FC

Well done Hodgson, level of respect just went up for recalling Ferdinand given the craziness of the last 6 months.

Pretty obvious team too, although its interesting that he picked a 26-man squad. Kinda shows how tight the competition for places in a final 23-man squad will be when all players are fit.

Except with Torres he can only play as a striker. Welbeck's versatilily means he can play left-wing & in the hole behind the main striker & still excel in those positions.

However i'm not going around in circles sir Lee, since i believe you have already stated that you don't rate Welbeck. So all i'd ask you is do you think Welbeck's goal scoring game can improve based on what you have seen of him?

No I don't think he is good enough, give him 2 more years and he will be at a mid table prem team where he belongs

I fear that you may be true, he's a consistent footballer, but he isn't really the 'top material'. Of course I could be well proved wrong.

He'll be top-drawer when he improves his finishing.

Henry at 22 was in his 5th season at Monaco and scored 1 in 19, so he's got plenty of time to improve.

I dunno, this is maybe off the mark but I think wellbeck is a pretty skilled and intelligent player, but the fact he looks like a brutish target man (i.e. big tall black guy) means that a lot of people sell his talents short.

Ferdinand in the England squad.... :facepalm

Genuinely hoped Hodgson had seen the light. Not even close to good enough for England and hasn't been for about 8 years.

:lol I've heard a fair share of interesting reasons why some people think Ferdinand should not play for England - but the above tops the lot.

Effectively you are saying Ferdinand has not been good enough for England since 2005 & has "never been close to good enough for England"???. My word..:facepalm

Only Tony Adams & possibly Sol Campbell at their peaks can compare to Ferdinand among English center backs since 1990. So your statement is highly illogical.

I'll assume that War's post is in opposition to mine so:

I disagree with everything you've just posted.
