England National football team thread

Ye, i'll be interested to see if he does play both those games. But reading all the papers & internet sites, the british media is certainly being true to form with their crap again.

Hodgson & Ferdinand release a joint statement saying everything is good after their face to face meeting, but somehow they all don't believe all is well. Just a few days everyone was praising Hodgson for finally recalling Ferdinand, now they accuse him from handling the situation poorly & are accusing Ferdinand of either turning his back on England or trying to get back @ Hodgson, thus signalling the end of his England career. :facepalm

How do they know that as Ferdinand's doctors said, they if his so called "intricate pre-planned programme" is not adjusted to accomodate playing international football, he won't be better prepared for England in the future?

And why are talking about a feud with Cole & Ferdinand???. That nonsense lasted 5 minutes, Ferdinand & Cole shook had with each other during the 2-2 FA Cup tie between United & Chelsea...

Would love to have Ferdinand in Montenegro, plus Dawson too. But Cahill & Smalling were generally solid vs Brazil & last i checked friendly game or not Brazil are still a notch above Montenegro.

Those in the press need to chill the hell out...

The English press has never been good, has it?

Cahill's out versus San Marino? Saw this on ESPN I think.

Comments about him have been positive though, but he just would be another mid-table star I think.

Let's be honest that's just a complete guess isn't it? Not really a well thought out opinion.

I have no idea how good he will turn out.

Not really, I know a few Sporting fans who spoke about his composure and humbleness, that they were a bit high for his level.

he spent a year in our academy on loan. so the contrast won't be that stark.

He did, but he mentioned that it was a bit of a shock at how much physicality took precedence over footballing ability. I think he said it was very difficult for him to adapt early on.

O no, the might of San Marino what will we do without our first choice centre backs,

Just gonna check if my nan is around she could do a job against them

If we're worried about San Marino it really is time to pack it in.

true.

My point it that regardless of how technical his youth was as soon as he got the age where players are on the brink of first team action (that is 17ish, bit too young for CBs still admittedly) he was sent to england, essentially to toughen up a bit.

If a continental "flair" footballing style was so much better than ours he wouldn't have been sent to an english side's reserve team for a year in what is potentially one of his most important years of development.

I'm not saying we shouldn't improve our coaching methods as we clearly should and need to, however it simply isn't as big a deal as some (those some being War and the daily mail/express, mainly) make out.

Arsenal and Utd have shown you can produce technically sound English players if your academy is set up the right way.

Was pretty impressed with the under-21s tonight. Zaha was especially lively, showing some very impressive skill moves & dangerous pace. Don't want to put the mockers on, but he just maybe the next big thing in English football, when he plays for United next season.

The starting line-up was nice too:

-------------------Butland-----------------

Clyne------Wisdom-------Dawson-----Rose

----------Henderson----Chalobah----------

Landsbury--------Shelvey---------Sterling

-------------------Zaha-------------------

Add Caulkner, Ince & Rodwell instead of Dawson, Landsbury & Chalobah, that's a solid team. The normally strong Spanish, German & Italy under 21's would have be SERIOUSLY strong this time around for the England team not to be among the favourites.
