England National football team thread

Yep but don't think a little thing such as reality will get in the way of samuels and the dail mail publishing tripe that fits their jingoistic agenda.

Yes but what are the guarantee's that even if Marwood produces good english talent from the Man City academy, that such players will get a run in the man city 1st team by Pellegreni (or other city coaches in coming years), when City have the money to buy top foreign talent easily?

----------

Incidentally War, what do you make of the stuff coming out of St George's Park? Apparently, England will win something by 2020... yep... :noway

It's going to take a while for sure. If i recall correctly France built clairfontaine (spell check) in 1988 and won the W-Cup 10 years later.

:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm

The Premiership shouldn't be running the show - the FA should!

This is the underlying problem with the FA. Trevor Brooking as director of football has no real power. The directors of football in france, germany, holland, spain italy have absolute power over the leagues to manage them with national interest at stage.

The FA has to basically beg the premier league to come on board to do things that could help England.

That's the problem! City's owners want success as soon as possible - they want a ready grown tree to plant in the ground, not have to wait years while they plant a seed, nurture it, give it sun and water yada, yada, yada.

And don't get me wrong, it's not just City - it's pretty much everyone! That's why we need a..... foreigner cap! I know I sound like a broken record; I don't care - and let's hope for the future of England that there are some strong willed people at the FA who do likewise!

People are always going to say that young English players will get in the teams if good enough. Rubbish. Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish! Are these people seriously saying that they reckon an uncut English diamond will get in a team ahead of a seasoned, World Class pro like Aguero? Like RvP? Like Mata? Wake up and smell the coffee: unless something is done about the lack of English players in our very own league, England will never win anything in our lifetimes!

And even now, more foreign players are being signed - very young foreign players as well, as the Premiership continues to be the world's Footballer Nursery. We don't just need a foreigner cap, but also a rule against bringing over foreign kids. Players like Mata, RvP and Aguero can really help our youngsters; what can the foreign kids do for them?

In the past few years, I've seen England go from a plucky team that makes a fair go of it at major tournaments, and gives the big teams a real scare, sometimes outplaying them, to one who is crap against the smaller sides and gets thrashed (with or without a heavy scoreline) by the Italys and Germanys of this world.

Finally, we've got to identify these young English players and get them in the England team in their proper positions! Scholsey, bless him, was never a winger - he just didn't have the pace. There are countless other wasted opportunities - Le Tissier, Hoddle and many others. Speaking of Hoddle - he needs to be involved in the England setup; a chance presents itself with Pearce leaving the U21s. Get Hoddle in there now!

Soapbox session over. :) I'm sorry to go on, but I am very passionate when it comes to England.

I didn't know that; suppose that's a glimmer of hope then. Depends on what they're doing at that there St George's Park. Are they training athletes, or footballers? Are the kids playing on small pitches when ten years old, or on full size ones where they hardly ever see the ball?

What have Spain done? Just what have they done? For a long time, they were a team with decent players but who never really got anywhere. Now, they win everything. You watch the seniors: 'The other team can't get the ball'. You watch the U21s: 'The other team can't get the ball'. It's not that we can't produce the players - it's the coaching at each and every level.

yes but what's that got to do with the nationality of city's academy coaches or first team manager?

nothing.

it has everything to do with the nature of the league and the pecuniary influences.

Manchester City training centre: Plans revealed for ?100m complex | Mail Online

Yeah, success as soon as possible written all over it. :rolleyes

There's quite a difference between wanting success as soon as possible and cutting the gap.

----------

And any major change to any youth academy system takes at least 10 years before you actually see results which for all we know could be horrendous.

Anyway, the thing hasn't even been built yet!

As I said, it's not just City; it's pretty much all the top clubs. Come on mate, I'm obviously going to single City out though. ;)

He's right.

Also, I wonder which 'yes man' will get the U21s job now Pearce has gone? I'd love to see Hoddle get it, but he won't do as he's told. Someone like Southgate on the other hand, that's a different story. In any case, you have to remember that before the U21s, we'd gone unbeaten for nine games or something like that and also the fact that Pearce's squad was stripped to the bones by the FA (what was Rodwell doing in Brazil for a friendly when he could've been in the U21 squad for example?)

And they didn't concede a single goal right? During that run?

Ye well i wasn't really arguing about the city's academy coaches or first team manager. I agree & was saying it has to do with the nature of the league and its strange influences.

Its disgusting man. It has to be said the premier league is our enemey. That scheduling is joke. How could they if they have any awareness of england upcoming schedule of games, put big games so close to the key ENG qualifiers. :facepalm

On the under 21's, Hoddle is a top choice indeed, that new premier has a big internal fight on his hands.

FFP will be a "thing" then?

Do we know if Hoddle's in the running? Personally, I'd like to see him stay with U21s for a while and then return as the senior England manager; he did a great job last time.
