England tour of India (5 Tests)

With Bumrah being rested, it's surely gonna be a rage turner now?

I hope not, this series has been a good demonstration of how good pitches need to be. Favorable to both teams and comes down to actual skills instead of just win the toss kind of situation.

Also Gill needs to be rested from test. He is not in his right mindset. Needs to reset a little.

I suspect BCCI is letting Bumrah rest because the pitch won't be assisting pacers anyway. Given how close this series has been (not counting the last England innings where they capitulated), I doubt India would have risked resting Bumrah when the series still hasn't been won. All this makes me think it will largely be spin dominated with spinners operating as early as the 2nd-5th over.

In India, winning the toss and batting first is almost the way to go. Batting 4th here is definitely not something that teams look to do, so the toss, I feel, does play a huge factor.

England are bringing in an extra spinner in Robinson so it may indeed be a dustbowl.

You know what would be absolutely lovely? India going back to their most famous strategy (despite only using it for 1 match ever) of the spin quartet. Axar, Jadeja, Ashwin and Kuldeep. Four spinners with different strengths and points of difference. I'm not sure how likely or unlikely it is to happen, but if it did, it would be great.

I recall looking up some stats for average runs per wicket by country. India was one of the highest in the 1st innings and lowest in the 4th innings. But definitely had one of the largest margins between the two.

Conversely, in England, the difference is much smaller.

Obviously doesn't guarantee victory if you bat first. But if you get par scores it certainly makes it easier.

Wonder what Washington has to do in order to get back into the Test reckoning? Akash Deep's inclusion does surprise me given the pitch's nature. Then again, under Rahul Dravid, India caps have been distributed freely. Probably draws parallels to the number of times someone eats peanuts alongside their beer mug!

When was the last time India went into a home test with just one pacer?

Washington may not be competing against Akash for the same spot.

Nagpur 2012 vs England, Root's debut as far as I can remember.

Ishant Sharma being the lone pacer.

Not sure about other occasions after that.

I do remember a couple of instances where this has happened, cannot pinpoint the Tests though.

It may have happened in the time we hosted England during the pandemic just because of how horrendous those pitches were but I’d have to check.

Jurel’s keeping is pretty good. Wouldn’t be surprised if he keeps his spot even after Pant returns.

It is not about going in mandatorily with 2 pacers in each home game. A mere look at the pitch tells you it will spin later on. Akash Deep's inclusion for a mere 1st day's (it works today cause we are bowling) play makes no sense whatsoever. Washington might have added a bit more depth to the batting and been more than a handful as compared the Akash.
