How loosely do the Indian captains use the word "process"? Post MS, there have been many who have used this buzz word whenever we have lost. But, these words coming out of Hardik's mouth sound preposterous. From my Management Consulting background, the loose usage of this word spells the death knell for everyone involved.
For starters, there is no process. Selection matters & choosing captains for every series isn't a proper process. Here, they are redefining processes. Or are these guys trying to crack the Blue Ocean Strategy? Just cause the others arent trying doesnt mean you need to try it. Try it only when there presents a valuable addition to this madness.
Secondly, "Process"- are you trying to adhere to it? Or are you trying to improvize?
Adherence doesn't seem to be the order of the day(incase of India doesn't seem to be the order of years since ages immortal). With the frequent changes (personnel frequented NCA, chopping of captains, new keepers, new openers, new bowlers), how can one even relate to this madhousery as a process?
Improvizaton- does the Indian team mistake itself for a Six Sigma organization? Winning bilaterals and losing the knockouts only? Six Sigma by definition is a failure rate of 0.00034% only.(Perhaps the great teams of Lloyd and Ponting qualify for this metric). Consultants usually assess the current level of an organization before suggesting changes. The current Indian team believes it is at the 6 Sigma level when in reality we are a 3 Sigma or lower organization, incapable of transforming anything other than their gym bodies. The onus placed on fitness seems irrational here and it seems there are differing standards for different people. Someone like Shaw and Khan are body shamed despite scoring tons. On the other hand, people want them to have toned bodies like Kohli, Pandya. Not everyone can achieve that owing to their body structures!
