I think it's quite tough learning to bowl spin in environments where there's not a lot in it for you. Probably much better situation in England now then back in the 80s or 90s but I still feel like trying to nail down a first team place at county level bowling attacking spin is a tough assignment.

Ultimately counties aren’t going to play spinners if there is no need for them (as they shouldn’t) and it doesn’t help when the one county that did serve up pitches that aided spin got warned for it too.

In the last 2 and a half test India just buried Bazball batting approach.

It all started on the 3rd day of 3rd test match.

So we all know that as captain, Ben Stokes' place in the side is beyond question, and that's not a bad thing. What is a bad thing is his batting form:



This is certainly something that the team will need to keep an eye on, because if he's playing as a specialist captain then it really compromises team balance. With Ben Foakes playing as a specialist keeper (which I do enjoy: I'd take someone averaging 25 and holding all their catches, stumpings and run-outs over someone who's averaging 35 but will make a couple more mistakes per game with the gloves), it is imperative that all six of the main batters perform their roles properly. With someone like a Bairstow, you can replace them if they're not performing, but with the captain you can't.

Realistically once Stokes lost his bowling his place was always going to be in question, but hard to drop a guy who can magically make a match winning 150* with the tail when nobody expects the team to win.
