England tour of Pakistan 2024

Looks like Babar is going to be dropped by the selection committee, not by captain and coach.

pretty sure captain and coach are voting members of the committee

although im not as anti-Babar as some other fans, im still relieved that they are shattering the illusion of Babar being invincible and his place in the lineup being untouchable

As per the article: 'it is understood neither Masood nor Gillespie were part of the selection committee meeting on Friday'.

Sounds like, even if they had a vote they could be outvoted and by people who only came into the job this week.

From an England perspective they'll probably be pleased to see Babar dropped.

Additionally it seems they're going to use the same pitch for the next match.
It's all so deliciously tinpot isn't it

It'd be like if a team had their greatest pace bowler of all time and binned him off for a lad who averages 80 with the ball in domestic cricket and has zero stamina but is quite tall

I'm interested to see what England do. I'd initially think Stokes would could in for Woakes IF he can bowl. But if they're starting on a sixth day pitch they might think differently. Rehan in perhaps.

So no babar. No Shaheen. No Naseem. Pakistan really just let their decisions be made by throwing shit against the wall and see what sticks

That's a really interesting point.

I'd be surprised if Stokes was going to play a full bowling role, and realistically you want two seamers because of England's plan B of essentially modern day bodyline, so I think Atkinson and Carse are both as good as in

But there's a chance this Test finishes on a day 10 wicket, in which case the quick leggies of Rehan should be dangerous. The obvious player to make room would be Bashir, but Stokes fully backs him

Cricinfo was suggesting the ultimate Bazball option, if he can't bowl, Stokes doesn't get in the team at the moment. That's unless you drop Pope who just captained the side to a historic win.

So it looks like Kamran Ghulam is a straight swap for Babar. Bowling is a little more up for debate but if they really are playing an extra spinner I'd play Jamal, Hamza, Mehran Mumtaz, Noman.

That would certainly be bold.

I do agree with the notion that it's hard to drop any of the top five - Pope is obviously the weakest of them, but still holds his place. I think that two pace + two spin + Rootalitharan ought to cover the bowling needs even if Stokes can't bowl though

Dropping Pope might not be a bad call. If you want to go in with the strongest XI, then perhaps Pope might have to make way.

I for one command the selection committee for taking this bold decision. Dropping 3 superstars is never easy. If Pakistan do well, they were not needed. If Pakistan lose, they ll atleast have no blame games.

I feel all 3 who are dropped needed this too, a closure that will allow them to get back into form for future. Plus all 3 have not set the world on fire in tests at all, so technically not a big loss.
