England tour of South Africa 09/10

Nice to see Trott making runs, surely this will be enough to get him into the 1st ODI.

If it isn't, and we see hacks like Cook, Denly and Prior playing ahead of him, then it'll just prove how idiotic our selectors are. If our selectors insist on picking Prior, then Trott has to open. How they could justify picking Denly or Cook at the top of the order ahead of Trott is beyond me. Just hoping that they show a grain of intelligence and pick a batting order of Strauss, Trott, Pietersen, Collingwood and Morgan. If Denly or Cook are shoe-horned in then we'll have to get 10 overs from Collingwood, Pietersen and Trott. Not ideal.

I presume Sidebottom's injured, as even though I've been far from his biggest fan, especially after his recent atrocious ODi performances, he's got to be a better option than Bresnan, Mahmood, Onions or Plunkett.

We're slowly moving towards a decent ODi side. Just need to get Flintoff back, pick the right keeper and get rid of some of the hacks. I'd be happy to see an XI of:

Andrew Strauss
Steve Davies +
Jonathan Trott
Kevin Pietersen
Paul Collingwood
Eoin Morgan
Andrew Flintoff
Stuart Broad
Graeme Swann
Ryan Sidebottom
James Anderson

It's not perfect, and I don't see it winning us world cups, but it's an improvement on this current team at least. Dimi Mascarenhas would be an option I'd definitely consider as well. He's not been given enough of a chance opening the bowling in ODi cricket and I think he could do a good job, probably a better option with the ball than Wright; as is Napier.

Hopefully we actually get cricket tomorrow. It has rained the whole day here in pretoria and joburg. If it doesn't rain tomorrow we should still get play , wanderers drains very fast.

I prefer Swann opening as he has done this for Notts. Sometimes it will work and sometimes not. Trott takes a bit of time to get going and that puts pressure on Strauss. I prefer Foster as he gets more stumpings than any other bowler and is also a good finisher. Sidebottom started off in ODIs with an average of about 15.00 and it has gradually being going up and is now 35.46 with a strike rate of 43.96. His strike rate in limited overs is also high, 43.71. He is also not very fast in the field.

Strauss
Swann
Trott
Pietersen
Collingwood
Morgan
Flintoff
Foster
Plunkett
Broad
Anderson

It's already raining, and if it doesn't clear up soon, it will probably stay for the day. Hopefully it will clear up by sunday for the second ODI.

Something tells me we won't get any play in today. Damn English for bringing their weather with!

Doesn't look like this game will get of the ground.

Suddenly ODI's look very very boring!!!
This is maybe the least expected ODI series this year. Yawn,, Should have been like 5 T20's and 2 ODI's :laugh

And it looks like even the gods are unhappy with this series starting !

Nah, the series between Australia and England was easily the least un-exciting series before it started.

Pfft, the Wanderers has had 40mm of rain in the last 3 days, parts of NW England have had 370mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

If you're going to do it, do it properly!

Not looking like play's likely. It's stopped raining, but it's needs to stay dry for the rest of the day to have a chance of any play. Groundstaff say they'll need a couple of hours to get the ground fit for play. Bloody South African's and their dodgy weather.

When it is overcast, wickets will fall.

No, Aussies as a team are very appealing unlike England or RSA...

When Aussies, india, Pakistan are playing then its very entertaining!!!:D

James Tredwell? Must be hard times. I'd take Ian Blackwell over him every day of the week.
