Nice to see Trott making runs, surely this will be enough to get him into the 1st ODI.
If it isn't, and we see hacks like Cook, Denly and Prior playing ahead of him, then it'll just prove how idiotic our selectors are. If our selectors insist on picking Prior, then Trott has to open. How they could justify picking Denly or Cook at the top of the order ahead of Trott is beyond me. Just hoping that they show a grain of intelligence and pick a batting order of Strauss, Trott, Pietersen, Collingwood and Morgan. If Denly or Cook are shoe-horned in then we'll have to get 10 overs from Collingwood, Pietersen and Trott. Not ideal.
I presume Sidebottom's injured, as even though I've been far from his biggest fan, especially after his recent atrocious ODi performances, he's got to be a better option than Bresnan, Mahmood, Onions or Plunkett.
We're slowly moving towards a decent ODi side. Just need to get Flintoff back, pick the right keeper and get rid of some of the hacks. I'd be happy to see an XI of:
Andrew Strauss
Steve Davies +
Jonathan Trott
Kevin Pietersen
Paul Collingwood
Eoin Morgan
Andrew Flintoff
Stuart Broad
Graeme Swann
Ryan Sidebottom
James Anderson
It's not perfect, and I don't see it winning us world cups, but it's an improvement on this current team at least. Dimi Mascarenhas would be an option I'd definitely consider as well. He's not been given enough of a chance opening the bowling in ODi cricket and I think he could do a good job, probably a better option with the ball than Wright; as is Napier.
