After weeks of preperation, teams from across the world have met in England to compete in the tight series of matches lasting 16 days in September. With Squads annouced Its is time for the first match in the ICC Champiosn Trophy between the Pool D teams of England (user) and Zimbabwe.
So England win the toss and elect to bat on what seems a godd wicket for both batters and bowling. Lets have a look at the bowling stats and figures and batting.
England batting averages:

Zimbabwe bowling Stats:

England, from statistics show a strong ODI team with batting averages throughout the top 6 in the high 20's, low 30's with a strong and proven opening partnership, especially in test between M.Trescothic (average 38.29) and A.Strauss (38.20). Furthermore England have strong tail with G.Jones averaging in the 30s and A.Flintoff know for his huge towering sixes.
On The otherhand Zimbabwe have a young emerging side with plent of potential, but the question of whether they are ready for international cricket is yet to yield a answer.
Well the small crowd here at Edgbaston are ready for the frist ball and play so lets go to the commentators for the ICC Champions Trohpy.

Update:
England suffer early loss with a caught and bowled from Panayagara of A.Strauss.

A.Strauss knocks it back and gets caught and bowled.

The scorecard shows England in trouble in their opening match.
With the loss of wicket at the score at 1-1 England were in serious trouble, however 2 sixes and 1 four from M.tRescothic has made things look better.
12a.jpg

M.Trescothic steadies the ship cliping the ball away for 4 in the legside.
13a.jpg

The bowler walks eagerly back to his runup.

Not a great start from Strauss, but I'm sure we'll overcome Zimbabwe.

Update after 25 overs:

England after losing an early wicket look to carry on with some positive cricket. M.Trescothic is looking in fine form smashing 3 sixes already of some pretty poor bowling from the young zimbabwe side.
14A.jpg

-The ball is clipped for 4 from Trescothic.
16A.jpg

-Weather conditions look bad but Trescothic continues hitting a cover drive.
However at the other end M.Vaughan look out of touch scoring very slowly and playing and missing several times. However the introduction of the spinner meant that Vaughan could pick up singles, roate the strike and get some runs on the board. Thsi worked for a while untill runs dried up and he went for the booming cover drive in which all he found was a thick outside edge.
18A.jpg

-Panayagara dives to his right to take a edge form M.Vaughan.
At 95-2 England were still in a good position despite the lose of wickets but a wonderfall half century from Trescothic meant runs kept coming.
15A.jpg

-M.Trescothic acknowledges the crowd after hitting 50.
However shortly after wards he nearly goes after some poor judgement and slacked running.
17A.jpg

-Close but he was still comfortably in.

30a.jpg

Well at the half way mark England were crusing at 108-2 and now at their end of innings have finshed with 251-8 with some power hitting from Flintoff and Collingwood. M.Trescothic hit a century but got bolwed the very next ball and in the final overs wickets fell repeatedly.
23a.jpg

-Trescothic successfully reaches his century in quicktime aswell.
24a.jpg

-His spider shows many of his runs came through mid of and mid on.

Update End of Innings:
M.Trescothic who was in fine form was out to a ball which cut back miles and unluckly enough took place straight after accomplishing his ton.
25a.jpg

-What a ball Trescothic.
Although the zimabwe bowling wasn't perfect there were some good points especially from Elton Chigumbura who bowled extremely well bowling 3 maidens.
26a.jpg

-Hawkeye shows a good line and lenght to right handers from Chigumbura.
Another highlight was Panayagara who took 4 english wickets and was also not very exspensive.
27a.jpg

-Chigumbura picks up the wicket of Solanki after finding the edge to the keeper.
However Englands score good have been alot different if the umpire had of got a LBW decision correct when he gave A.Flintoff notout when hawkeye showed flintoff out on his very first ball. However the Zimbabwe bolwers had some more LBW shouts most of them correctly notout.
22a.jpg

-Hawkeye shows that this time the ball was going to mis the stumps.
So with 252 to win have Zimbabwe got the talent to win or will it be a walk over for England find out soon.
