The strong England squad have bowlers who would be any selectors pick. Each of the main 5 bowlers have averages below 40 and strike rates of good quality. Moreover England have two great fast bowlers with Harmison and A.Flintoff who is always a handful.
p4a.jpg

Bangladesh on the other hand have a weak inexpierenced side with few high batting averages. For england theres only a few players to watch out for, H.Bashar and M.Rafique.

Npower Test Series: England v Bangladesh
Bangladesh v England, 2005, 1st Test
England v Bangladesh
Lord's, London
27 September (5-day match)

Lunch Day One
Bangladesh 71 for 7 (30.0 overs)

At Lunch England are in full control as expected. 7 wickets have already fallen in trhe very first session of play, moreover it seems that alot of the Bangladeshi batsmen will be leaving with a few bruises.
pi1.jpg

-N.Iqubal takes one in ribs courtesy of S.Harmison.
pi3.jpg

-J.Omar take several blows in the ribs and stomach and arms.
pi7.jpg

No Bangladeshi batsmen looked settled with Harmison and Hoggard in fine form. Although some batsmen hit some boundaries they never looked like they could build an innings.
pi2.jpg

-N.Iqubal hits a four.
However Hoggard with the very overcasts conditions was getting extreme swing causing many problems to the batsmen.
pi4.jpg

After near misses and close shouts M.Hoggard finally got the breakthrough dismissing N.Iqubal after finding the outside edge. This wicket then brought about a collapse with more batsmen goung including his fellow opener J.Omar.
pi6.jpg

-The two wickets of both openers.
pi8.jpg

At 48 for 6 M.Rafique comes to the crease with his team neading a good innings. However like most of his fellow batsmen he falls on the sroke of lunch although he and K.Mashud did add 23 together.
pi11.jpg

-Rafique comes and goes.

Npower Test Series: England v Bangladesh
Bangladesh v England, 2005, 1st Test
England v Bangladesh
Lord's, London
27 September (5-day match)

End of Innings
Bangladesh 89 allout (39 overs)
pi16.jpg

pi17.jpg

pi18.jpg

A rain effected day has left Bangladesh, although bowled ouyt for just 89 in a position were they could salvage a draw. In Total 193 overs have been lost and the majority at the poitn when England had 3 wickets to take. S.Harmison and M.Hoggard starred with the ball for England taking 9 wickets between them with A.Flintoff taking the 1 remaining wicket. Unfortunetly the toip score for them were extras (22) with only 3 batsmen reaching over 10 and no batsmen getting into the twenties.
pi14.jpg

-Rain stops played luckly for Bangladesh.
At The resumption of play M.Rafique, who was still on 0, edge one over the slips for 4 much to the bangladeshi delight. At the other end M.Mortaza battle on dispathing a short ball from Harmison for 4, howver he like many other Bangladesh batsmen was out caught at gully by A.Giles.
pi15.jpg

-M.Mortaza dispatches Harmison to the boundary.
So England come to the crease knowing that with only 89 runs behind a big lead could set them up for victory. However on the otherhand Bangladesh know that some rain delays could salvage them a Draw.

Npower Test Series: England v Bangladesh
Bangladesh v England, 2005, 1st Test
England v Bangladesh
Lord's, London
27 September (5-day match)

Tea Day Three
England 23 for 2 (8 overs)
66 Behind
PI21.jpg

England are struggling at 23 for 2 after 2 outside edges to wicket keeper K.Mashud. A.Strauss has carried his poor from from the ODI into test were he scored another duck. (two ducks in the ICC Champions Trophy).
PI19.jpg

-Andrew Strauss gets and leading edge to th wicket keeper.
However at the other end M.Trescothic look in decent form hiting two fours despite have some LBW shouts.
PI20.jpg

-M.Trescothic survives an LBW shout.
So England need a partnership and also a lead so that they can try and avoid a draw with Banglaesh although it would of been the weather that would have saved them.
How rain has effect Proceedings:
Tea Day 3:
240 overs should of been played...
Currently only 47 overs bowled...
therefore 193 overs have been lost to rain...
210 overs remain in the test match...

Npower Test Series: England v Bangladesh
Bangladesh v England, 2005, 1st Test
England v Bangladesh
Lord's, London
27 September (5-day match)

Stumps Day Three
England 116-3 (38.0 overs)
27 ahead
pi26.jpg

England resumed play knowing that there were 30 overs, light and weather permitting, for them to buil a score and hopefully suppass Bangladesh's 89. Englands captain, M.Vaughan led from the front aided by the young I.Bell, together they put on over 50 together. However the only positive for the Bangladeshi bowlers was the fact that there is plenty of swing especially for M.Mortaza who had some close LBW shouts, unfortunetly for him all turned down.
pi22.jpg

-Bell hits a 4 through the cover region.
pi23.jpg

-M.Vaughan leads from the front hitting the ball for.
The light, now with only 10 overs remaining was looking bad and it seemed that the batsmen would soon be offered the light, however unfortunetly for batsmen they didn't and all that seemed to happen was increased swing. This inevitably brought the downfall of Ian Bell for 28, trapped LBW.
pi24.jpg

-Above- Bell survives another LBW shout, this time the ball was going over the stumps.- Below- He isn't as lucky now hit infront of the stumps and definetly out.
pi25.jpg

So England have a lead but it is vital that they keep up a steady runrate with just 190 overs left. However the England captain will be fairly confident that he could bowl out Bangladesh withput having to bat a second time.

Npower Test Series: England v Bangladesh
Bangladesh v England, 2005, 1st Test
England v Bangladesh
Lord's, London
27 September (5-day match)

End of Innings:
England 183-5 DEC. (59 overs)
94 Ahead
PI32.jpg

PI33.jpg

PI34.jpg

Rain agains effected play at lord when the heavens open and 135 overs were loss. This rainfall brought about an early but expected declaration by M.Vaughan. Due to the rain only 16 overs remained in the test and therefore it seemed the best decision to see whether they could take 10 wickets in half a session.
PI31.jpg

-Very poor weather may just save Bangladesh from defeat.
England started day four badly losing the wicket of Vaughan ealry on after being caught of M.Rafique for 53 (125). However it was soon clear that K.Pieterson and A.Flintoff were in fine form. These two batsmen rescued England and added fifty together boosting the score to 171 for 4. However poor judgement from Pieterson left Flintoff to be ranout and now England look in a diffiuclt position although they were in the lead.
-Below Pieterson and Flintoff execute some good shots for 4.
PI30.jpg

PI28.jpg

PI29.jpg

-A.Flintoff gets runout comfortably.

With a lead of 82 G.Jones came to the crease and chipped in with a cover drive for 4. England were now 94 ahead which was 106 short of what the England captain wanted to leave the Bangladesh bastmen facing, However the rain strted and it meant a day and half without play. Therefore now 94 was planety but was 10 wickets in 16 overs to much, Find out soon.

ENGLAND require 10 Wickets to win...From 16 overs
BANGLADESH are 94 behind... with 16 overs to survive.

As many people expected this test match ended in a draw with England only taking the 1 wicket of Nafees Iqubal for a duck. However, although bangladesh were alwasy struggling there 2nd innings performance showed that they can bat properly and set good scores. It would of been interesting to have seen whether Bangladesh would of got a decent score becasue J.Omar and H.Bashar both looked in fine form an settled.
For England S.Harmison and S,Jones looked in superb form bowling in the 90's regularly, however the only worry is A.Strauss who is yet to score a run in 3 match appearences in ODI and Tests. Harmison was bowling fierce deliveries at the opening batsmen casuing injury to J.Omar
pia1.jpg

-J.Omar takes another blow.
pia2.jpg

-J.Omar hits over the top his first boundary of the innings.
pia3.jpg

-S.Harmison finds an outside edge of Nafess Iqubal for 0.
pia4.jpg

-M.Hoggard nearly gets wicket but its notout.

So England failed to win the test due to bad whether however have shown good capabilities in all forms of the game. On the toher hand Bangladesh who failed in their first innings showed fight back taking 5 wickets and determination.

Npower Man of The Match:
S.Harmison 5-20 & 1-17
Harmison took 5 wickets in the first innings by bowling fast bouncy deliveries which got the batsmen in all sorts of trouble. Moreover in the 2nd Innings he took the only wickets and looked a danger throughout his 8 overs bowled.

ECB and BCB annouce a 2nd Test

The two cricketing governing bodies have annouced a 2nd Test match after rain effect the play throughout the 1st Test. Both bodies agreed that playing only 1 test which ahd on just over 100 overs play was unfair to the Bangladeshi's who travelled from asia to only get over a days play.
The only concern for England however was the fact that the reason for the bad weather was probably because the est was being play into October. Therefore both Squads shall return to Dhaka for one Test before England head to Sri Lanka.
Tour Update:
Red= England to Bangladesh & Pakistan back to England
Yellow= Bangladesh to Sri Lanka
Green=Sri Lanka to Pakistan

England in Bangladesh, 2005, 2nd Test

Series:2 Test Series level 0-0
Toss:
Umpires: Aleem Dar (Pak) and EAR de Silva (SL)
TV Umpire: AFM Akhtaruddin
Match Referee: Wasim Raja (Pak)
Commentators;

Well after poor weather both cricket boards agreed that it was best for both cricketing clubs to move from England and play a 2nd test in Bangladesh. This suits England who are heading that way anyway and moreover provides further expierence for Bangladesh. Yet again England have put forward a strong strength squad ahead of this tour.

England Squad: M.Trescothick(V.Capt), A.Strauss, M.Vaughan (Capt), I.Bell, M.Butcher, G.Jones (Wk), C.Read(Wk), A.Giles, J.Anderson, S.Jones, S.Harmison, M.Hoggard, A.Flitnoff, K.Pieterson, P.Collingwood, V.Solanki,.

As soon as The coin toss happedned it was obvious that whoever won the toss was going to bat first. This wicket was hard and dry. Being dry was even more of a reason to bat first because this wicket will become uneven as the match progresses and batting last will be diffiucult.

Both Squads are unchanged but there are some player who have yet to perform. For players like A.Strauss this test is vital since he is yet to make any runs in 3 games and with a long tour ahead he nedds some runs under his belt. On the other hand A.Giles who has looked out of touch will sure get some rythm back on this big turning wicket. For Bangladesh, holding out for another draw would frustrate England but it looks unlikely to happen with the weather unlikely to be a problem.
